With the company I'm at now I'm forced to fuel at Pilot Flying J, and because I like to shower as the very last thing I do before bed then that's where I normally park. And I have to say, that oversized Pete's sticking out like a sore thumb in already tight PFJ lots is an absolute scourge for the rest of us drivers that have to deal with and back around that crap. And it's always those same boomer Super Truckers in those oversized Pete hoods that NEVER back up as far as they possibly can into the parking spot, thus making themselves stick out EVEN MORE than what they already would with their big ugly oversized Pete's.

The long hooded Pete drivers are probably the rudest and most inconsiderate demographic of truck drivers out there when it comes to being courteous as to how they park the truck at the truck stops. And even at shippers and receivers, it's just incredibly annoying to have to back around those big ugly trucks for no good reason as all. There's zero practical use for oversized hoods and there's plenty of ways that those oversized hoods make the job more difficult for every other driver that's forced to operate a CMV in close proximity to them.

One less oversized long nosed Pete on the road is a WIN in my book. I'm being 100% serious with my post, I cannot stand those things. Good riddance to them all is what I say.

As a young trucker I can't help but admire and desire a long hood. These new trucks are soulless.

Hoods are nice, but I love the comfort and space of the new ones.

I am not a fan of the safety nannies that beep at you really loud. I can see my retirement approaching or becoming O/O to run older equipment.

Yeah I will say the aero hoods are a little more forgiving but when it came time to get my own truck I just sent it and got a long hood. Those set front axles and a long wheel base make quite the ride!

I'd only do it if I was home every 7-10 days and pulled tanker with it. Maybe reefer with a dedicated customers in big warehouses lol.

I drove hoods when I started, never OTR lol

Equipment has went light years ahead to keep the operator out of the elements, pilot oil controls are much easier to pull and control than a cable operated spool. It’s all about how many feet of ditch or yards of dirt that you move in a day. Also they don’t have a chrome shop just for their ####. Now I agree that’s the petty side of the argument

No way in hell do I want to go to no power steering. Crawl through sleepers if you got one or low horse lots a gears to get the job done. However I like looking at them and hearing how them tuff sonsabitches got er done.

The whole they ain’t building no more deal really doesn’t effect me. I have become certain here lately that a new truck isn’t in my future. I also don’t think there is a cut and dry answer on new is more or less profit than older. It’s a case by case deal. Older can wear your ### out if it’s wore out. For now I do think that in my circumstances at this time my ol piece a #### is putting more in my pocket than any new one could

Agreed. Gramps ran Stubbenville, Ohio to Chicago 3 rounds a week 80k. Day cab White Super Service single axle. 250 white flathead gasser. Single axle trailer. He added a Mack duplex in the early 50's. Fun to talk about, wouldnt wanna do it.
