The new truck we picked up is equipped with a sensor that will limit your following distance to the vehicle in front of you. After an initial laugh session (my co-driver is in this truck and it already is limited to 62mph!) I got to thinking. My concern is that this device IS GOING to cause a serious problem. Not just because it slows you down, but for several reasons.
1. You can not accel if an object(car, truck, anything) is in front of you. This could be a problem if YOU NEED to accel to get around the object to avoid a collision.
2. What happens whan a 4-wheeler whips into your open space? Is it going to slow you down so rapidly that you get whiplash or cause the tailgater to rear end you?
3. How is this gonna work in traffic jams? Are you gonna be stuck longer because you can't get close and move your truck?
Chock this invention up to those ever so smart "Book Smart People" who don't know how to drive a 4-wheeler much less a big rig!
New truck and a sensor...?

A buddy of mine says that the sensor in his truck makes highway merges and exits a nightmare for him sometimes.

you most likely have whats called Vorad, its made by Eaton. If you get to close to something it'll kill your throttle until you restore your "safe" zone in front. If you get right up on something OR someone cuts you off the jake will come on (this can be very dangerous on snow/ice. BUT remember there are 2 ways to over ride this, #1 DO NOT USE the cruise and it cannot control you, #2 Keep you foot on the fuel (even with the cruise on) and it'll over ride it.
Also note that you can simply reach behind the box on the front bumper and disconnect the plug and it wont do anything either....lol
