Well it is a known issue. It's gonna happen, might as well get it over with.

I researched, literally, thousands of trucks, thousands of Volvos, some went bad early on, some later, but they all went seemed like before 300K.

    Yeah that sucks Sharky !!
Is yours the last year of the D16?

    How's it been otherwise?
I liked my 07' once the EGR problem got fixed

I love the truck. I have no complaints at all other then the cups going bad. Mine is a 2015 so not the last year for the D16. Is a 500 HP.

True but at 147K. Hummmmm. If its always before 300K hope the next one is before the warranty expires!

One of our guys has a 2008 with the D16. He gets 18 months out of a set of injectors since new.
So since the original warranty ran out, he puts in a set, gets a two year warranty on them. At 18 months they through in a free set, then another 18 months, he has to buy a set. Then repeat for eight years.

Wow that sounds ridiculous to have to do it that often. I had heard that Volvo did have a problem in the past but I thaught that was fixed Guess not!

so the cups on these it's always just a matter of time there is no if it goes bad just when i have a customer that is on the third set in a year all under warranty all done by a dealer and still whoever is doing it is doing something wrong i think just because they do so many they cut corners at least the mechanics probably do and it effects how long they last his other truck i did the cups and injectors a month after that one and there is not one single issue with it. I think a lot of it has to do also with whoever is doing it. it's hit or miss i've seen them last 4 months and i've seen them last years it's a messed up problem that volvo should have came up with a better option for.

Is it both the D13 and D16 engines that have this issue? What are the symptoms?

I'm sure those injectors cost a King's ransom too.
