Ya the community colleges are accredited schools, there like $4000 and up but they prepare you for the real world, my friend went to a $2000 4 week school and still came out unprepared. You get most of your preparation from training. How did you pay for the school tho? I haven’t found. A community college in LA that offers trucking, it’s mainly just “trucking” colleges/schools like road masters

    Asthma could be a problem.

There was and may still be places you park at filled with bad air, enter a truckstop or some joint that has smoke down to your knees. That would be the last environment you want to be in. Not to mention some of the heavy industry out there. The dust is a very real problem and probably will drop you once your blood oxygen saturation gets too low. Or perhaps three miles up on a mountain pass and no air for love or money sufficient for you? Etc etc etc.

Grab a PDF reader and settle in start reading.

Lol I’m already well aware of what comes with trucking, I been on a few trips with my friend as he is a trucker. He’s a constant smoker, he smokes 2 pack of cigarettes a day. My asthma is pretty much non-existant, it has calmed down so much that I forget I have it, I have a albuterol inhaler to control it and I only use it a few times a year and refill it once every 2 years! I just wanted to know what would happen with the DOT physical, would I get a 1 year medical card? Or would they not want to pass me, I read on your file as long as it’s controlled your fine. I seen truckers with worst health conditions still driving till this day haha .

You need a carefully worded doctors note whomever prescribed that Albuterol to you stating clearly that it is controlled and not a interfering with your trucking.

Let’s get ya started with a few questions?
    You like fast food ?
How about sitting in traffic ?
    You need a shower everyday?
What you will learn in trucking is only a fraction of what you will do in a truck when your a CDL driver out on the road with 97% of today’s drivers that can’t drive in the first place. Driving a truck isn’t like driving your Toyota or pickup.
Major carriers will give you the Bible trying to get you in the door to drive there dancing freightliner or there shiny Volvo. You wanna go home. Hurry back. We have a run for ya.

If ya have a girlfriend or wife. Your relationship will go down hill , if ya want a best friend ? Grab a dog , you can take him with ya so you ll both be cooped up in a smelly truck at the same time. Wait till he has to per or #### and there nowhere to park a big rig w a 53 ft trailer ?
How’s the idea of living with someone you don’t know for 6 weeks ? Look forward to it, he’ll be your daddy . Lots of idiots out here that don’t give a Fck about anyone but themselves, there rude, smelly, stressed out . Welcome to trucking

Lol seems like you really hate trucking. I was already aware of everything you mentioned, my friend is a O/O straight out from the army so he’s pretty blunt in letting me know what to expect. But hey, it beats working a 9-5 job everyday in the office making minimum wage with a college degree. I rather smell like fart and make a good wage to support my family, well, probably not the first few months to a year but you get what I mean. I mean would you want to work a 9-5 job everyday getting screamed at and yelled at by clients and patients and insurance companies? I agree with ya that 99% of truck drivers can’t drive, look at the guy who drove down the I70, he’s currently being charged for manslaughter and other accounts.

Big Question and I Need answers ASAP

So. I have my IL SOS DMV Issued CDL CLP(Commercial Learners Permit)

I have my IL DOT CDL Med Exam Certification - Good for 2 Years

What good is that - even if I go through a State Accredited Community College CDL Driving Course?

I want to get my CDL through the Community College CDL Driving Course now instead of a Carrier Sponsored Course.

Even if I pass the Community College CDL Course and The IL State DMV CDL and Obtain a CDL License - Will it even be possible to acquire employment? - if I have no OTR Driving Record with a Carrier - nor a 10 year Work History?

This is just getting too complicated.

People kept encouraging me to keep trying but, I was a Care Provider for our children with Special Health Care Needs. for 28 Years - AKA a Home Maker. That was my job.

To make matters even more complicated. I was a resident of Illinois for 25 years but moved to WA State for 2 where I had a drivers License there for 2 years then I moved back to Illinois where I now have had an Illinois Driver's License for a little over a year. 16 Months.

I tried to get my Drivers Record from Illinois and since I moved to WA for those 2 Years all Illinois now is providing me is that 16 Month clean Drivers Record. They don't seem to have a record available for me for the 25 Years that I was a Resident of Illinois.

    And.

I now can not access my clean driver's record for Washington State for the 2 years that I lived there because I am no longer a resident of Washington State and no longer carry an active Washington State Drivers License.

So. Although I have a US Passport, a US Passport Card, an Illinois Driver's license and IL SOS DMV CDL Comercial Learner's Permit and a Certified DOT CDL Medical Exam Card good for 2 Years, it looks to any carrier as if I haven't much of a driving record at all even if it is absolutely clean.

When the Illinois SOS gave me the test authorization for the CDL Learn's Permit and passed me,('Cause I passed 1st time) well before they did, I thought they did all the necessary background checking. At the very outset even before given the CDL CLP Test - The Illinois SOS DMV was satisfied with my driving record and my DOT Medical Exam Certification - good for two years. - I could not be given the IL SOS DMV CDL CLP Test in the first place if I did not have the necessary clean driving record - nor would they have given me the actual CDL Commercial Learner's Permit if I did not have a safe driving record.

Please. - Any informative answers from truckers with home maker wives that obtained their CDL - without an employment history and who obtained a job after obtaining their CDL would be appreciated.

Gamgee ~ Is this really the end of this career path dream?

P.S. The Community College seems satisfied. And their program runs all the way through - 40 Hours Classroom and 120 Yard and Road Skills. Is that not enough? Is this endeavor all for nought and dead in the water? I really need to know before I sign that check and Pay In Full For The Community College's CDL Program.

I hate this. It looks like I have no driving record at all and I am a new driver. - How could that be? I don't want to tell you my age but um I have two adult children. I took them to all of their specialist doctor's appointments all those years. Saw them through college.

:( What about me? ~ Gamgee

P.P.S. This post is so long even I am having problems following it. Apologies. ~ Gamgee

If I was in your shoes, concerned about my employability, I would apply to a few of the Mega company schools - not with the actual intention of going there, but just to see if they would take you. Then you'll know.

Once you confirm that you are employable (I'm pretty sure that you are), go forward with your community college cdl program. You should end up with some options.
