I am new to the industry and I am currently in school. I have applied for Schneider National because I have heard nothing but good things about them. I would love to hear everyones comments on Schneider and what companies to stay away from. The best companies are driver recommended companies. So please start recommending??

The only person that can decide which company is right, is YOU.

Everyone has different priorities when it comes to a truck driving job. Do you want to maximize your income? Take-home pay? Hometime? Want to run certain areas of the country and avoid others? Stay out of Canada? Go to Canada? E-Logs? EOBR? Paper logs? Lease? Large truck with big sleeper? Small truck with small sleeper? APU? Length of time with a trainer? Team vs. Solo?

These are just some of the things that could influence your decision.

Make a list of what's important to you, in order of importance. Post that list, and then people can weigh in on what companies might work for you.

you make a valid point. thanks for pointing that out. Pay is a HUGE factor, i want great pay. Benefits are a huge PLUS but not top on my priority. I would like to be home every weekend, but i am willing to be out for what is needed. I would like a few weeks with a trainer seeings how I am brand new to the job, but not to long that we end up wanting to kill eachother. the truck is not hugely important to me, but of course i would like room and one of those brand spanking new ones lol, but i also understand im just starting out. I am not sure if canada is difficult to drive in or not, but if i gotta go there then so be it. Cant wait to hear the comments. THANKS!!

It doesn't matter where you start out. You need to get some experience under your belt. If you want to cross the border, go get a passport. Canada is picky about convictions. So don't tell them you can go there if you have a past. Stick it out with somebody for a year or so. Then get you a local job near the house. There is always someone looking for a truck driver. :biggrin_25519:

it all depends on what specific's ur are wanting or searching for. do u want van, reefer, flatbed, team, etc? where would u like to run, northeast, south, west coast, etc? companies are just like going to a restaraunt, they have a menu that u can choose from, companies are the same way, u can choose, but it's like an above poster said, only U can decide what's best for u.

they are as good as anybody. like others have said you will have to jump in the stream and see what part fits you. the trucking industry is more diverse than almost any other industry. it may not seem that way until you get in and start working in it. sure most of it involves driving but take my word on this, it will provide you with a good living if you put back into it and you use your head. get the experience wherever and stick with them until you have enough time to start calling your own shots based on knowledge and experience , not out of rage over a dispatcher , or a shipper , or a bad weeks take home pay. free advice and worth every penny, johnny

research, research, research. where do you live, that plays a huge factor. schenider is an ok company, but they are a mega company. i have less than a yr under my belt and i managed to get on with a smaller company where im home weekly, have great benefits, no forced per diem and im making great money (no where near mega company newbie pay). if i can do it so can anyone else, well assuming a good driving record and clean background.

put in apps, then call them the next day, i did this to all the companies i applied to and i got a job offer from every single one of them. my current company, i had to do 3 actual interviews, "what are your strengths, weaknesses, etc".

as far as the worst companies, i have seen it first hand not word of mouth, cr england, crst, there are pleanty of bad ones but with those two i only heard horror stories from their drivers never anything positive

    1. Where do you live?
    2. What type of freight do you think you want to run?
    3. What are your expectations of pay and home time?
