    Hey folks,
I’m pretty new around here and just trying to connect with other drivers who’ve been doing this longer. The road can get lonely sometimes, and I know a lot of you have seen and been through way more than I have.

    So I wanted to ask:
What keeps you going on those long hauls?
Do you have certain routines, music, podcasts, or habits that keep you sane out there?

Feel free to drop any stories or advice too — I’m all ears. Hoping to learn, laugh, and maybe even make a few road friends here.

    Stay safe out there!

Numb, OlegMel, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this.

Decent snacks that aren’t junk. Pull over every 2.5 hours, do crunches, push ups and jumping rope to keep the blood flowing. Usually I make play list on YouTube of music to listen to, or get some audio books from audible.
Watch what you eat… food from diners and junk food restaurants will get you feeling like crap and depressed…

Well for me a "long haul" is anything over 150 miles... but you'd be surprised how many shenanigans can happen in that little bit of time!

I have a routine of listening to videos that I guess can be described as self improvement videos. I like listening to those with coffee to get the day started. After 10 am, then it's a little espn as I'm a bit of a sports guy, then it's music. I'm kind of a loner out on the road, not that I don't crave connection, but many times talking to other drivers isn't really connecting, it's me providing a platform for them to tell stories or to measure their schlong against mine. Truckers aren't usually my vibe of people. On occasion, I do come across some diamonds in the rough, then we can pass the miles with good dialogue and maybe grab food periodically.

The thing that keeps me going the most is the tranquility and freedom on the road though. I get tremendous peace out here. Something about writing my own music to a degree is so appealing.

I no longer drive a big truck but I spend more than half of my day driving a pickup to install and service air compressors and water pumps etc

when I drive a big truck in the late 80s and 90s there was no GPS no Sirius radio no cell phones etc

they did have books on tape and CB radios

    Anyhoo my favorite pods are

    Adam Carolla Show
    Mike Rowe
    Under the Hood
    Reasonable Doubt
    Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
    Jordan Harbinger

    The Art of Manliness
    Tales of a Gearhead

Pod casts, otherwise I am pretty much a loner, when I am not in the truck I usually camp alone, fish alone, and just try to get away from people. My big mileage days are Minneapolis area to Bismarck nd and as far back as I can legally get. I might split berth 1 or 2 hours grabbing a bite and relaxing in the sleeper, but usually get bored at the 1 hour mark and get back out there.

    Chinatown Thanks this.
