HiI am the wife of a new trucker. He had a great time training for 3+ months with a good company & is running regional east with a flatbed for them. I like how nice & helpful this company is but we just can't pay a bill!!! I restock his needs each week or two & then I may have 100 bucks for food! The deductions are crazy! or maybe we just are not used to it?? The Coal Mines paid our insurance, we now pay for that, dental, vision, & many other "needed" things that add up to about 450.00 per week. he gets .38 cents per mile, & has anywhere from 1400, to 2500 miles per week. mostly the lesser. We were just asked to join on with USA Trucks by a friend, doing dry van as an IC. He said we would get our "brand new" truck from Quality Co.com & then sign under usa as an IC driver....he showed me the check stubs, looks GREAT!!! BUT, we are so worried about hidden things that we do not yet understand. But we feel desperate, we are honestly hungry here lol! Family of 6! We lived very comfy on the Coal Mines pay of around $1100.00 per week AFTER any deductions....I guess my question is, how can we get up to that?? I see ppl saying they do well, so how? & every company I look into there are soooooo many ppl talking bad about them, it just seems like a 50/50 chance that you might you get a good deal...Just so you know, my husbands never been a job hopper. over 11 years with one coal mines. through layoffs & all. (we made more bring home on unemployment than now) & he was told by his FM that he likes how he runs hard, only stops to buy fuel, & load checks. Delays are always at shippers who take forever at times! ugggg Or sitting unloaded waiting for csr to give you a new load, like 2-3 hours!? So, I have NO doubt we could do the IC as far as discipline & dedication, but is Quality Co ok? He said it will be different than leasing on with a co, because Quality co & usa are 2 different co. so usa would have no say over our truck. & we would have more freedoms?? BUT hubby LOVES Flatbed, wants to do ONLY flatbed. So that lets usa out....so? do you guys know of any great companies we could learn with for a few years & make decent income until we decide & prepare better??? From what I understand our current company is good, but ??? yea, they are nice n all, but we are starving! :/ Any ideas, or info will be appreciated. Thank ya!
new trucking family & we are STARVING! It has to be better than this!??

Check into a flatbed company called TMC. I'm sure there's a thread or two on here about them. I have heard good things over the years. You can also get a truck from Quality Lease and lease it on with Mercer out of Ky. They also have a lot of threads on here
lisamomof4boyz Thanks this. -

Stormy379, Thanks for the reply!! & TMC from what I understand is the same as the company we are with now. But not real sure, I will look them up & do some research. I do not know about Mercer, Ill check them as well. Thank you
They say our company & tmc are real close as far as pay scale & they compete a bit I think? lol My husband is due for a raise at end of November for .02 cents more I think. thats when his schooling contract will be up & his 6 months otr is in....Not sure how much that .02 cents helps in the end, but it's better than now. I think it takes 5 years to top out at this company on pay per mile. thanks again! Trying to learn all I can. Jusr hate my husband gone this much for what my youngest makes at McDonalds :/ yuck. lol

FLATBED TRUCK DRIVER SALARY & PAY SCALE
At TMC we believe people should be paid based on how well they perform, rather than just how long they have been with the company. That does not mean we do not value longevity. We do and we reward that as well. Our performance percentage pay option was designed by TMC drivers. They wanted their paychecks to primarily reflect the quantity and quality of the work they did. That being said, we also recognized that some drivers are just more comfortable with the more standard mileage pay system; at least until they have a chance to compare the benefits of each pay option. Drivers have the opportunity to switch pay plans twice a year.
OPTION 1 (PERCENTAGE PAY)
This option pays you a percentage of what the company is paid by the shipper to haul their load. Percentage rates start at 26% for Recent Graduates and 27% for experienced drivers. This is the rate you will receive through the first full calendar month that you are with TMC. Your percentage rate for each month after that will be based on your performance. Percentage rates go as high as 32%. Drivers with 1 year of service with TMC are guaranteed a base percentage of 26%. Drivers with 2 or more years of service with TMC are guaranteed a base percentage of 27%.
This is our most popular pay option, favored by over 80% of our current fleet. New drivers love it because it gives them the opportunity to move rapidly up the pay scale unencumbered by a lack of seniority with the company. Experienced drivers love it because they get a share of the gain every time TMC gets a rate increase.
OPTION 2 (MILEAGE PAY)
For drivers who prefer to be paid based on the number of miles they run TMC offers the following:
Recent Graduates Experienced Drivers
$.40 per mile to start $.42 per mile to start
$.42 per mile at 6 months $.43 per mile at 12 months
$.43 per mile at 12 months $.44 per mile at 24 months
$.44 per mile at 24 months $.45 per mile at 36 months
$.45 per mile at 36 months $.46 per mile at 48 months
$.46 per mile at 48 months

ok, thank you
Great info again Big Papaxx!! I also forgot to mention that I love to go along when I can. I love the trucks as much (maybe more
than my hubby. lol But we have yet to find a company that will allow us to take our youngest with us, he is 8. (just now & then) so maybe IC or O/O one day??.... It feels natural to us, I know some frown on that. But we take him in everything else. lol Anyway, we want to gear our future toward our personal style of how we want to travel. BUT at this very moment, & near future, I just want to buy food & pay the bills
lol so, first our foundation, then maybe our dreams.
