You are certainly welcome. i will tell you that I was born and raised in Iowa and I know both of these companies. I do believe decker would fit your families needs a bit better with what you described you were looking for. They are both very family oriented and while they are big enough to have all the perks but small enough you are not just a number.. Best of luck
new trucking family & we are STARVING! It has to be better than this!??

so do you want the 800 mile loads, or several 400 mile loads in this business. Please forgive me if that's silly to ask, I just want to understand the best way to run.
& what are better paying "lanes"? I'm assuming that means routs that pay more? but how does that work? & how do u choose them? we are told where to go as of now. lol
lol but I'm excited for a new future for my family, we are from WV by the way, my husband is sleeping somewhere in Indiana tonight. but ok, it's been a pleasure to chat with you!! Have a good Night! & Thanks again!

@Big Papaxx is right, Decker flatbed is more regional which means fewer long runs.
Stay away from any lease deal or purchase deal right now. Your husband just started trucking and needs to learn more first; he should be a company driver.
TMC drivers make good money , so your husband must be driving for some affiliate such as a contract driver that has a few trucks leased to TMC. Too much of the pie being sliced so the slices are small when they reach your husband.
If he insists on flatbed, then he should either work as a TMC company driver or change companies to maybe Waggoners Trucking Co. which pays .50 cpm and runs coast to coast. He will need hazmat endorsement and passport for this company.
Endorsements and passport and TWIC are money in the bank and that's why many of us senior drivers stress that to new drivers still in CDL school.
Did he check Howard Transportation in Weirton, WV? It's flatbed.
Maybe Abilene Motor Express (refrigerated) in VA? Those drivers don't complain on here about paychecks.
Waggoners has a couple dozen terminals including a couple in Canada and one in Fairmont, WV. Do the online application for him because he's busy and stressed out, and go from there. They do hire new CDL grads from accredited schools.Last edited: Oct 28, 2015
lisamomof4boyz and Puppage Thank this. -
How about having a sit down with current co. and bring this info with. Tell them you need more pay as you are having a hard time feeding the family.
If they cannot match, then tell them you will have to leave for better pay elsewhere.
Tell them you like working here, but just cannot make it on this payscale.
See what they say.lisamomof4boyz and Blackshack46 Thank this. -
We got a big family too. We could never afford paying over 1100 a month insurance. So we go without and hope for the best.

The last thing anyone broke, hungry, with 6 kids, and admittedly desperate needs to be doing is leasing a truck as an independent contractor. Hubby needs to get a job as a company driver paid on a W2 with benefits before you folks end up on the street homeless.
TBonze, SL3406, BuckeyeKev and 10 others Thank this.
