i dont think the problem is the pay but your miles are pretty low. if your FM likes you try asking for more miles and if they just cant get them to you then you need to start thinking about going elsewhere.

The problem is not miles. The problem is a clueless, desperate, green rookie with a family to feed leasing a truck as a contractor and trying to run a business.

TLeaHeart and lots of character Thank this.

He's not leased yet, there thinking about going to a lease. From what I read he is currently a company driver not making enough looking to lease. At his current company he is getting 1400-2500 and more towards the 1400 mile range.

Hurts to hear of the hardships of your family at this time .This trucking industry is one that from the beginning, for most newcomers,it can quickly become evident that a big gap can start to show between perceptions and realities. This is a big test in the learning curve all of us must travel.
At this time it is so easy to start "drawing straws".My best advise would be to be very disciplined in choosing your next options.Lease /purchase ,being so new can be very attractive ,also carrying a high risk factor.Come up with a total $ amount that your family needs to live on monthly.
Find a trucking company that can "give financial opportunities "that will exceed your monthly expenses..Sounds like your husband is a hard worker.Patience and discipline mean a lot in trucking.Best of wishes..

He's grossing 2400 a month????? Tmc I hear take home 800 to 900/a week. With 4 kids you should get food stamps and free/reduce lunch at school. Granted he's new and the first year sucks. But he's Flatbed and it pays more, so he should be able to do better shortly. Good luck.

Did you state where you are at?

H, & No, his gross looks decent (wish we could keep that ;) lol but his bring home After the 450.00 deductions is next to nothing! last weeks pay was $280.00. we just can't do much but buy food with that and maybe one Small bill here n there. We will not qualify for Gov't help due to his Gross. :/ The company we are with is supposed to take home that per week, but we haven't seen it yet. He did talk to his FM & he keeps saying he is trying to get him more miles but "something" always happens. like today, he has sat unloaded for 7 hours on clock due to yet another mess up from csr. they made appointments for several drivers that were already out of hours last night, so they all had to wait today to be fixed. crazy! Thanks for your reply :) I know somehow we will get this new life in control ;) lol oh & we are from Southern WV.

Buckshot3448, Hello :) We are trying to work with the FM & he is very nice, he says my husband shows a great work ethic. Problems just keep happening to mess up the week of miles & pay for us. like today he has sat 7 hours on clock!! Due to csr making appointments for several drivers last night who were already out of hours! so they had to all wait today to be fixed. uggg just always something. a good run will be ruined by weeks end every time. thanks for your reply, we want to do well, so just trying to ask n learn :)

Rollin Coal, thanks for your reply. lol We are new, & clueless, Right now, But do not plan on staying this way ;) I am a fast learner, my husband is an amazing worker, and this is all brand new to us, but I have been reading hours a day on what we need and what it takes in all areas of this business. I wanted to understand the IC & o/o side better, it does interest us, but I know we are so new to the game that the odds are not on our side to be owners yet! I like the challenge though. I did say somewhere on here, I want FIRST to build a good solid foundation and just be able to pay bills, & eat before anything else. We will find our path, & I am seeking as much input from experienced drivers as I can get! So any great info is welcome. Have a great, safe day, & thanks so much for your input :)
