$2500 with the option to be bumped down the list if something comes up that will be applied to the purchase price. Then i need 15% down before production starts also applied to purchase price.

Good luck with that. I ordered a freightliner in march that was supposed to be here in july. In july they said, ya someday next year.

I see. Is any of that refundable if something else comes up? And is that what financing you happen to have been approved for, at 15% down?

There is no way in #@#@ that I would give a dealer non refundable money just to reserve a slot on a min 16 mth waiting list for a new truck thats just crazy... 16 mth is a long time alot of things can change..
I would sit back and wait and take advantage of somebody' else's misfortune.. because things are gonna change .. and this economy is not stable enough
There too many people looking through rose colored aviator glasses right now

that’s why I’m starting to look at my options right now. New truck great, but if I can get a good deal on a truck with 100-200k mi on it that could be a good start for me as well. I’m just a bit scared of being sold a lemon with low mileage.

Nope and also nope bank wants 25% down, 30% if i want a 8% rate with my current credit. But the dealer requires 15% up front for a custom job at the start of manufacture.

I mean your not wrong....However its a gamble one way or another regardless of how i go. Do i keep my bullfrog which has been a money pit and is only likely to get worse as it further ages especially with the underpowered paccar engine with so much standard maintaince never done on it and now a wreck that did christ only knows what to the guts? Do i risk a rebuild? What about the fact both dealers i talked to said 2 to 6 months to get a platinium rebuild due to a parts shortage?

Do i buy old iron that is likely ratted out and may require tons of repairs and/or get taxed/regulated off the road and will eat me alive in fuel and for which parts are likely to get scarce for as manufacturers decide to focus on new trucks where the money is?

Do i buy another used def truck that may be almost as bad as my current rig and will likely need tons of repairs?

Do i reserve a slot for a new truck that at least is LIKELY to be high quality and is built exactly how i need and want from the getgo, but may or may not work out with the economy on a tetertotter and the world around us starting to go up in flames and the ongoing parts shortages may brick if they get bad enough?

Do i wait and hope a truck at least close to what i want falls into my lap? And hope it doesnt need a ton of modifications right from the word go? Or that it wont have features i hate? Especially with dealers and manufacturers currently snatching up anything to get a unit rolled out the door and likely using parts that would normally go in the reject bin?

As i said its a gamble. At least with the new rig, in the worst case i will only be out $2500. Which will suck no doubt about it. But for now i have it as an OPTION in my back pocket. And many others feel the same way.

The salesman didn’t really say what all they wanted as far as money down to hold said unit.

I was thinking about you the other day when I was reading the thread on here titled Stolen Trucks...
Get your self a load going to Jersey or Florida... leave your truck running and unlocked when you go for dinner there... Problem solved ...

Heh knowing my luck i could leave it with a load of gold bars in the slums of detroit and all that would happen is they leave a nasty note on my door saying my truck sucks and is not worth their time and they feel bad so they left a $100 and a fresh pack of newports and bottle of jack on the step to help out.
