    Hello everybody!
I'm looking to purchase a Hood with 400+ Horses to pull a drop frame van from Texas to Oklahoma. I've been to several dealerships and heard many different pro's and con's but I wanted to ask the experts there opinion. Question is what is the life expectancy of a used Det or Cat with 500K + miles? Is it worth saving a buck to buy used?

a well maintained diesel engine can last to 1.5million miles if taken care of properly.

$140,000 vs. $30,000-$75,000.....for a 1 year driver.....Seems like a easy decsion to me lol. Its allot of risk going out and buying a truck never mind a new one.

I'm not a O/O but I'd recomend you start with a used truck and work your way up to a new truck once you have more OTR exp, some O/O exp, and lots of money saved up.

    Oh and from my Exp:

Cat: Strong relieable engine, Great balance between HP and TQ, but not so great on MPG's

Det: Reliable engine, WEAK, useless POS, better MPG's then a Cat, and no bottom end power all top end (and not much of it)

Cummins: THIS IS YOUR BEST OPTION! Strong reliable engine, More bottom end power less top end but since most of your time should be spent in the lower RPM range that shouldnt be a problem, Great MPG's.

    Good Luck!

i know there are all sorts of variables and things that affect your MPG's but typicly Cats get the worst mpg's out of the 3 from my understanding. And isnt your cat pre emissions? All engines got better mpg's before all this crap.
