New to the site and I will say now thank you for any at all advise given ahead of time. I am located in southern NJ and am in the process of doing a 180 as far as a career but looking forward to it. I applied a week ago to deer park as a route sales delivery driver since my close find is in the industry and got his start there since they train you, pay for your license etc. I am a very proactive person and it is killing me to have to wait to hear if I am getting the job or not without being able to follow up with someone.
So as of yesterday, I went to the DMV and got the CDL manual and card to fill out and asked about my options and have started reading the manual to prepare for the permit test. My question is, once I get my permit is there any company that will bring me aboard and pay for or at least supply me with a vehicle to complete my license?
I will have a very difficult time finding someone with a class B truck or a license to complete the driving test , my friend lives in north NJ 3 hours away.
I would like to get going asap so any advise on the best route to take would be helpful!
thank you !

Does the company you applied with have any trucks? You mentioned that they would help you get your license. Also check into some local companies that run the class of trucks you're trying to get licensed for. You may have to agree to stay on with them for 6 months to a year for them helping pay for your license.

Many companies provide training up to and thru your CDL driving test. Or you can contact a school on your own, get the CDL that way. No strings attached if you do it yourself. Only thing is, these resources, while effective, may or may not be available within a reasonable radius of your residence. Good luck.

Yes Deer Park will pay for all that and train you . You drive with them up to when you take the driving test. I don't mind staying somewhere for a short time I just want to get started asap. thank you!

Yes I am actually going to an appointment with a school at 11 this morning to check what that is all about and the cost. I agree that doing it on my own while cheaper , may not go well since I don't have means to a truck.

I am confussed.. so, Deer Park will bring you on with only a permit, where you can only drive with a licensed driver and then when it is time to get your CDL they dont help you get it... so basicly they just want driver helpers??? -
No deer deer park would bring me on without the permit , I would then drive around with a driver while I prepare for my permit and then train me for the license etc and train me apparently from what my buddy said that use to work there from when he started his CDL.
I hope they call and hire me but I am preparing as if they don't so I don't waste time.

I found a cdl driving school that is reputable and is accredited . Once I get my permit next week on my own he will only charge $1000 for the class to prepare me for the license test and the ability to use one of his trucks. I am really looking forward to this! It's been a while since I could say that about a career.
Still hoping Deer Park calls me but like I said I am proactive and don't want to wait around and I have found no other companies that are willing to bring me on and train me for the license which is understandable . -
Sounds like you will do just fine in this industry. Best of luck to you.
