    Hello Fellow Truck Drivers,

    I am by default a thru and thru trucker, and also a web designer and developer.

    I am making a new website from the ground up just for us, and would like to know what everyone's opinion is. First and foremost it will be a truck stop locator and very simple to use. You might say, "Hey there's an app for that!" But, does your app show every truck stop? Or give you directions to the one you select, search for a specific truck stop chain i.e. Pilot? Or even let you add a new truck stop for others to see?

    I want to make this site as simple as possible, to give users a great experience. So without further ado please list your feature requests and I will try to work them in.

    I would post a link but that would violate forum rules. Unless the admin deems it okay.

    Thank you all

    Sorry everyone, I forgot to mention that a web app is a website that can be viewed on any internet connected device. Such as desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone.

    Thanks MsJamie,

    So far I got locations for Pilots, T/As, Loves, and CAT scales. Only thing I can not seem to find is a list of WalMart locations that allow Truck and or RV parking. I did manage to find a list of the ones that don't allow parking

    I have a sample image of what the website will look like if the Admin will approve it before hand. Otherwise I will just keep asking for ideas.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    If it's location and route aware, and you can tell it "show me truckstops near my location 600 or 500 miles ahead", that would be helpful

    The problem with Wal-Mart's is determining how busy they are, and just general location. I bet most Wal-Mart's will allow truck or tv parking, but how can ga park if its full of cars? now busy or not some do have areas in the back that are big enough for a few trucks to park in without getting in the way of deliveries, but others only have enough room in the back for trucks. I've been to ones that the entrance is on small two lane roads. Get in, parking lots full, and now I had to turn around in the docking area which was dang tight. Almost had to use the grass. Had there been a delivery truck in there I woulda never gotten out accept to shut off traffic on the road and in the parking lot to back up. Best part is, was with another driver from my company, so we both had to turn around with not much space for two trucks at the same time.

    The other thing is the Walmart may be just outside a truck restricted route, and at a busy walmart, turning around would still be a pain. I've seen Wal-Mart's with actual spaces for trucks and RVs but those are very few and between, so rare in fact that it would have been pointless to create a list of them, if the person doin g such logistics would be even able to find them. Your app would have to consider a hundred factors before saying that a Walmart is truck friendly. don't want to tell a driver he could park there and there end up not being any spots, and or a place to even turn around

    Hi,

    Can you also get the full list of WalMarts? In that case you could get the full list and just exclude the ones that don't allow parking. So you will have a list with the ones that allow parking. I bet you already had that idea :)

    PS! I'm a web developer myself..

    Thanks for the replies everyone. :)

    @STexan
    Yes this will be based on you GeoLocation, either by GPS or by an estimated location based on where your phone or laptop is picking up its IP address. In which the later will usually be less than 5 miles, but that all depends.

    @ThatFlatBedGuy2013
    You are absolutely right about WalMart. I have had some experiences myself with WalMarts parking lots. To me its more like trying to find a parking spot at any Pilot, it's the area your in and the time of day. Anyone who had ever drove in the North East like anywhere on I95 north of Virginia knows what I mean. The further north you go the worse it gets.

    @kaarelkk
    Thats awesome, maybe you and I could collaborate on some things. Im working on a full list now, its nice when you mom is the assistant store manager lol. I currently have a full list of WalMarts the absolutely do not allow Truck or RV parking so with a full list of all stores it should be pretty easy.

    Basically in a nut shell it will use Google Maps, I tried to Get PC Miler to let me use there Map but they wanted a fee :( maybe later on though.

    There will be these types of maps:
    Pilot/Flying J
    TA/Petro
    Loves
    Other (mom pop type truck stops, I don't want them left out of the loop. This will also be home to just parking types for trucks (non- truck stop or parking only). Lets face it, we all been somewhere where we had no idea where you can park, when that Pilot you was hoping to park at for the night to get a shower, just to find out that people are parking in the Fuel island. Yes I have seen this time and time again.
    WalMart

    There will be a standard contact us page and a submit new location page. The submit new will pick up your location automatically. The only thing you would have to do is click the icon and tell us about the new location. Then click submit.

    I also am pondering on the idea of a live instant chat room, not so sure about this one yet.

    The site is scheduled to have ground breaking Aug 1st. and I will make an announcement here, so keep the ideas rolling.

    Thank you everyone,

    Eric

    @STexan - This will find your GeoLocation and or approximate location(usually only a few miles away if that). It will also have a refine search to a drop down of mileages 10,25,50, 100, 300, 600.

    @ThatFlatbedGuy2013 & kaarelkk - I know what you mean there had the same experience. I am working on a Full list of WalMarts now, helps when your mom is the Assistant Store Manager lol. I currently have a full list of WalMarts that absolutely does not allow truck parking. So combining the two should be easy.

    @kaarelkk - Thats awesome, maybe we could exchange some ideas or collaborate a little?

    Basically in a nut shell these will be the main Pages of focus:

    • Pilot
    • TA
    • Loves
    • Other - Mom and Pop type truck stops and all other not falling into the above main chains. This also includes truck only parking, or parking only locations.
    • WalMart
    • Submit New - With this page it will get your location automatically. The only thing that is required for you to do is to click or tap on your location, fill out a form telling me what kind of location it is, and click submit.

    I am also pondering the idea of a live chat room, not so sure about that yet.

    Thank you all for your replies, I appreciate it.
