Hi, I got my Class A CDL a year ago. Still after all this time I can't find anyone willing to hihe me . I've had a DUI 4.5 years ago and no OTR experience. Is it possible to find someone willing to overlook that and take me as a partner or maybe some big company that doesn't care about my DUI. Thanks guys. Hope you can steer me in the right direction.:biggrin_25514:

No one in their right mind will hire you until the DUI is at least 7 years old. Sorry. Alcohol related offenses don't mix with big trucks.

You might try a construction company. We were more tolerable of DUI's then the trucking companies. Unfortunately most trucking companies won't use construction companies as verifiable trucking employment. Each company has their own requirements. You may need to do some research.

Keep looking,, you will find one,,,
You are just going to have to look at every company you can find and their hireing requirements... I know I have seen some that go back only 5 years. Pray you have the problem figured out and have taken the proper steps to fix said problem. Don't want to get another one of those, that is for sure... Good luck

a "legit" transportation company that doesnt care about a dui? doesnt exist, but there are some that are more forgiving than others, some will not hire you after 14 years. with that said, there are prly some outlaw companies without registration or insurance that wouldnt care, but who would want to do that?

your best bet is 7+ years, but there ARE companies that do hire drivers w/ dui's after 3 years, youll just have to do a good amount of searching..

definitely not a mega carrier, and it WILL be a bottomfeeder, but i bet you can find a job.

Some companies want three years. Many want five years. Some want ten years.

The big problem you have you did not address: You completed training a year ago. Many companies may want you to go through training again or at least a refresher course.

With all due respect, why did you not research this before you went through training. Also I imagine if you had looked outside the box six months or a year ago you could have found employment. Do you have other driving violations? Do you have a stable employment history? These are deal-breakers too.

Again with all due respect, you aren't going to get a driving job asking questions and filling out online applications. You need to do lots of research and make a plan. Almost every other driver you are in competition with has a better record as far as hiring. You will have to call small fleet owners and maybe look at oilfield driving. You will have to sell yourself one-on-one. Knock on doors and have in-person interviews. You will have to convince someone, in the position to do so, to give you a chance. Here is my standard advice, take it for what it's worth.

You need to research and find out what the important questions are. You can make an above average living but you will make sacrifices that other jobs don't require. Read the "good companies" and "bad companies" section on this forum and get an idea of what company you want to work for and what kind of trailer you want to pull. Don't just go to school and then try to figure out where to go.

I don't know your financial situation. Don't take training from a company if you can afford it or get it with financial aid. You will be their slave for up to year. If you leave they will trash you DAC and credit record. Check out your local community colleges and employment office.

Just know that most training and trucking company recruiters will do nothing but lie to you. They will let you talk about what you want and then tell you what you want to hear. Trucking is about moving freight to make money for the company. Your home time, family, paycheck and everything else comes second.

It is not like any other job. Local is usually backbreaking delivery work 10+ hours a day, 6 days a week. Often you unload dozens of times a day or you are a salesman. In my area most dump truck jobs pay less than a good factory job. Regional is lots of loading and unloading time, fewer miles than OTR and not as hard as local but will wear on you and push your HOS limits. OTR is out 3 - 5 weeks with 3 - 4 days home, less manual labor and more miles.

You'll probably have to pay your dues before you get the gravy job. Weekends off, if you are lucky enough to get something like that starting out, may be home Thursday afternoon and leave Saturday night or home Friday night and leave Sunday afternoon. Loads deliver on Monday early and you leave in time to get them there. Often your home time will be in the middle of the week.

Regardless of your driving choice, after school you will go through company training. For OTR this can be six weeks to three months with little or no home time. The first phase is usually $400 a week and the second phase is $500-550 a week. Some pay less. One company pays 12 CPM for training.

What trucking companies were hiting students where you got your CDL? That's where I would look first.

Remember guys, trucking is different than the real world. In trucking, you find an employer and then you go to school.
