The required paperwork was signed this morning, WIA payment delivered to Sage Technical, enrollment process completed, classes begin Monday morning at 8:00AM.

The gratitude I have for my case manager is immense. He is very knowledgeable, proactive and prompt. This is my first experience with any labor or unemployment department, having never been unemployed for thirty years, and it proved to be extremely helpful. The majority of the credit goes to my case manager.

It is energizing to know I will soon embark on the career path which, since the 1980s, has always held my interest.

A few side notes: It has been my good fortune to have criss-crossed the US multiple times via auto, pickup and Hog. I am a member of the Iron Butt Association, (don't laugh - look it up) having completed several documented rides of 1,000+ miles within a twenty-four hour period. During most of these cross country trips, my sleeping accomodations were the vehicle or a bivy on the ground.

Suffice it to say, the Lone Ranger lifestyle is both familiar and enjoyable.

I will post updates regarding my "Sage" experience.

PS -- Two weeks ago I submitted an application to May Trucking, visited their OC last week in Payette, ID and recently received a pre-hire offer. The May employees, many "long-timers" of 10+ years, were friendly and helpful. It appears I (warning shameless pun ahead) May join their ranks.

The CDL school near me wants 6K

 

Hello everyone. A newbee here.. I have just one question is the school that i am starting on Saturday offers a 10 week and a 22 week part time class. ( I still work full time)Will a trucking firm see the difference in the two? Or do they just care that you have you CDL class "A". The monies between the two makes a difference to me (flipping the bill myself).

from what I've read.. I dont think it would matter, the companys just want you to have the cdl, don't think how long it took you to get it would matter, and they are usually the same amount of time training just spread over a longer period

 

A full-time or part-time program will make no difference.

I will offer five suggestions: (my observations which you may already practice)

1) Select an accredited PTDI School. (Professional Truck Driver Institute) It is the difference, with many companies, between being hired or cast aside.

2) Be punctual. **All things associated with attending class may be reviewed by a potential employer.**

3) Present yourself in a professional manor. Your appearance and language may be noted by school instructors and, or the school director. **Remember**

4) Acquire all of the useful information possible, and disregard the unuseful fodder which is lurking about.

5) Give your undivided attention to each instructor and perform to the best of your ability, all else will take care of itself. **Remember**
