Newbie.... blah blah blah....yadda yadda yadda

I drove through downtown Chicago yesterday. First time seeing it up close. Interesting, big. Traffic was awful. Took 45 minutes to go 15 miles. Don’t wanna do that again.

 

Got a ticket. Driving in right lane in construction zone.
Safety wouldn’t give me the video off dash cam to defend myself. Everybody, even safety, says it does look as though the construction zone had ended. It was a trap.
I thought the company would give me a nice official video. Nope! I didn’t yank my memory card from my dash cam.
Still.. doing 64 in a 50mph construction zone? Patrolman gave me a verbal warning. Why? When we were in construction. Had people on the road. 1/2 lane from me. They were just walking. Not doing anything. I slowed to 30mph from the 50mph speed limit. Just makes common horse sense to me.
Still... that is a real BS ticket.

I also got a clean level 3 inspection.

 

I decided to step up in driving. Going oilfield. Water and pneumatic tanker. Happy to do anything else if they want?
Definite step up in pay.
4 days on. 2 off.
I live 2 hours from where I’ll work out of. So that 2 off, means 2 days at home.
Guys in the forum said it’s a good company. Kind of place to stay till retirement.
Can’t say I’m excited. I know it’s gonna be tough. Especially winter. I think it’s best for me.

 

Please don’t get me wrong. I’ve really liked OTR a lot. It’s neat having the lower 48 as my back yard. Driving all over the place. Have really enjoyed it. Reefer has been much better than expected. Lots of really good shippers and receivers.
