    hello all,

i have a few questions/comments thanks for your time!

i am a recent grad of a 3 week coarse to obtain my A's (graduated with a 96% whoot) im just looking for advise so i dont get sucked in by these salesmen/recruiters and end up not making any money. first thing first i do have a dui from 2006 but it didnt show on my DAC so i have not put it on apps, suggested by my career services person. wanted so insight on your opinion to that.
second i would really like to get into flatbed but i just cant bring myself to run for such low pay (26cpm) im waiting to hear from western express this after noon but there not my first choice, i know i cant be picky. any advise would be appreciated thank you

thanks, the only reason i did that is because every company i looked at wants it to be 5 years old, hopefully i didnt just waste 4 grand just to not be hired and have to take a refresher next year

I would put it on any apps that ask to cover that time period. If you don't put it down, and it shows of on your MVR when they run it, they won't even bother to respond to you. And if you do get hired by a company, and it shows up on a review, they'll fire you for falsifying documents.

As jtrnr said, always be honest on any apps you fill out

thanks for the help, i goofed its actually for 2007 now that i think about it. it was a pbj (idk if that matters) and did not show on my mvr(36 mo) or DAC. i figured if i list it they def wont even give me a chance but if they stumble across it then my loss. i just dont want a mistake from a few years ago ruining my chances of getting started

With the way trucking is now it is a pretty big gamble to dump 4 grand in a school with any kind of skeletons in the closet. Recent or not, but more of a problem with recent. What that does is really limits you on who will hire you. That is pushing the ball more in the court of a renegade co that knows no one else will hire. Stacks the deck even more against the new driver who has better chances of bailing or being put in a situation that ends your driving career. You have already stepped across the line, but maybe others considering investing can think more about it.

I would keep looking since you have come this far, but would not set the standard very high on what my options are.

Note, lil benny, this is not aimed at you personally.... more of a general thing.

Now there you have the reason I don't train anymore. I got sick and tired of newbies whining because they didn't start at the top rate "because we're both doing the same job" and "I've been trained at a driving school".

You get lower pay because that's all you're worth.... yet. Doing the same job? Not friggin likely. When I have to do my job plus your job by correcting all your mistakes and re-doing everything you've screwed up because I have to take responsibility for them..... you are #### lucky you're being paid atall. Crap, y'all haven't been at it long enough to know just how much it is you don't know yet.

Benny, I hope you get somebody that is still willing to put the time in on you. Flatbedding is dangerous in that there are hundreds of opportunities to injure yourself (or others) permanently. One false step, one hand in the wrong place, pulling the wrong way on a chain or strap can put you in a wheelchair or worse. Steel hauling is an experience all itself; can make you dead in a big hurry. Not really the first job I'd recommend for the average "newbie" just starting out.

But remember, When you think you've got your load secured "good enough"... add a couple more straps/chains 'cause chances are you're wrong. There's no such thing as a "too secure" load.
