Hello all,I am a future truck driver.I just got my CDL and my TWIC card.I live in Savannah,ga.I am going to Savannah Technical College in May for my CDL training. There are so many different threads on here about who to drive and who NOT to drive for.I would really appreciate some info from some of you professionals on here that could help me find a good company to drive for.I am 48 yrs old and I am currently an auto tech.I have grown tired of working on cars and have decided that I want to drive a truck for a living. This is not a decision that was spur of the moment(I used to drive with my ex-father-in-law about 28yrs ago).I of course would like to stay close to home but I also know that starting out, that may not be an option. So,I will also do OTR.I am a good driver.I have only had one accident in 32 yrs of driving and that wasn't my fault(someone pulled out in front of me).Thank all of you in advance for any help.

I looked into going to a community college fro training but didn't think I was going to get what I needed from mine. How many hours is the course? Some companies won't hire except from "approved" schools. Have you thought of hiring on with a company that will train you? You will have to sign a contract with them or else be obligated to repay the tuition plus interest but overall I would bet you would get much better training. Just a few companies that I know who will train you are: Swift, Roehl, Stevens Transport, CR England, FFE. Check em out. Hope this helps. Peace

Where did this term "newbie" come from? It's rookie. Do you hear the football announcers saying,"LaMichael James, a newbie out of Oregon, is going to be in the NFL draft this year."? LOL
