Hey guys, How does Millis handle guys with no experience at the schools. As long as your making improvements do they accept that, or do they kick you to the curb if your not catching on quick enough. The reason I ask this, is because I have never drove a truck, and Ive read storys on here about them kicking guys out of class for not picking it up quick enough, and that would definetly suck since im leaving my 9-5 to begin what a hope is a successful career with millis. Thanks for the help
Blue Diamond Thanks this. -
You'll find a.ton of patience and understanding from your instructor. Just do as they instruct and ask questions when needed and don't get frustrated and say "I can't!"

Sully said it best.........but I will add this. Some people are not cut out for this job and it's best they part ways early on. No need to send them with a trainer if they arent getting it in the first 3 weeks. However, your real experience will come when you hit the road with your trainer.
Ask questions, listen to your instructor, be patient and you'll be just fine. I came into this job from Corporate America and never drove a truck this large before. I drove a Fire Truck for 12 years but never one with a 53 foot trailer. It scared the crap out of me at first.
If I can do it - anyone can!Blue Diamond Thanks this. -
Preciate the info Baritone and Sully. Ive been in contact with Alice this week so hopefully things are going in the right direction. Btw, Baritone, I love them youtube videos man. Its a real good insight on what to expect on the road, keep up the great work.

Hey Dave...or sully or spanky or bear...can you be more specific by what you mean by "not getting it"? I'm assuming you're talking about everything related to the job such as driving/handling the truck, safety, trip planning, pre/post trip, HOS....etc. But to give you an example of what I mean, what if a "newbie" is able to jump into a truck and handle it like a pro and drive safely right out of the gate, but struggles on the pre trip or HOS or trip planning or a combination of those?Blue Diamond Thanks this.

I would hazard a guess that not getting it means you still can't/back the truck straight after 2 weeks. The straightline back is the easiest and usually involved at somepoint in other backing maneuvers. Don't worry its not difficult but have you ever known that person that just shouldn't be driving a car cause they just don't get it and don't take instruction. That's the one.Blue Diamond and Hitman Thank this.

I have been looking as well and Roehl has their own low-cost school thats three weeks before going out with a trainer and only one guy to a hotel room while in school. It seems most say very good things about them. They will finance the school but you must pay 500 upon entering for the lodging. Their recruiting website is goroehl.
