Hey and Howdy Husker! Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here and you can spend hours reading about companies so you have something to base your choices on. Good Luck. Again I say Welcome.

I have to say that it is hard to figure out what is fact and what is fiction!

If you all had to start over knowing what you know today, who would you go with right out of CDL school?

I see good about TMC, but then see people raggin on them and that they may be in some sort of finanical trouble and firing old drivers and hiring new drivers to keep cost down ?

I see people saying Werner is not a place to go as they do not pay you well and treat you like dogs?

I see people saying swift is not a good choice as well?

Heck, I see some who say that driving a dry van is far better then a flatbed and then some who say flatbeds are the best because of loading and unloading are 99% no touch loads.

Recruiters are coming from some of these companys and I need to know what is real and what is Bull?

    Thanks all,

I am a novice in this world of driving, but did not just fall off the truck, so I am looking for real and honest opinions???

    Regards!

Finding the right company is like finding a great pair of boots...not everyone fits. Talk to drivers that work for that company or companies that you are looking at. Don't just talk to one because he might be having a bad day and ruin your whole out look on them. Another thing is what are YOU looking for in a company...benefits, type of freight, ect... look at it this way you are interviewing the company not the other way around. If you find one your interested in call their recruiter and ask questions!!!!!!! Most(emphasis on most) recruiters won't bs ya but if you don't ask certain questions they won't offer the answers. This is another place to get some advice(not all some drivers are understandably po'ed at former companies). Also you may go through a few companies to find the right one for you, but thats part of the spice of life...You never get experience till after you need it!!!

Werner puts on their site .35 cents a mile - that's better than the 28 average I've seen! I'm still looking around though, money's NOT everything if it's one thing I've learned on this board.

That .35 rate includes all the 'bonus' mileage pay you can get. You will start out at more like .32 on the dedicated route my hubby ran on.
