I have recently been tasked by my boss to find a solution to our trucking needs. While I do have a current CDL and have worked as a driver for a number of years, I was always a mouth shut head down kind of company driver. Just trying to get home safe if you get my drift.

So I have no idea where to start other then I know I am looking for a flat bed owner operator near watford city, ND. that would like some work hauling around drill pipe. So if anyone can offer me some advice I would be grateful.

Is this proposed flatbedder going to work strickly for your boss, or will he take outbound loads and then have to get back, or what ?

I am unsure of a lot of the details.

As I understand it, the drill pipe needs to be loaded in the field, taken to the yard for hard banding, then returned too the field to a new location.

there will also be moving, temp storage of pipe then delivery to the next location.

There could be some long haul involved in retrieving pipe from somewhere but the details are limited.

This is a new venture for our company so I am starting with making contacts and finding out what I can from people who know.

I still do not know what I don't know.

Best advice I can give is to befriend some of the drivers in the forums who haul flatbed for example these screen names haul flatbed-canuck in da truck, reRun8963, wargames and I believe working class patriot. They're senior drivers and have alot of experience in the industry and contacts. Otherwise post your questions in the owner operators forum and I'm sure you will have all questions and concerns answered. Best of luck going forward and drive safe!!!
