Well I'm a newbie. I have all of four weeks running solo and just thought I'd point out a few things I've noticed.

Drivers - most are helpful and courteous if not overly friendly
    - when you wave at an approaching driver in Canada they almost always wave back, in the U.S. they almost never do
    - when at a truck stop drivers magically regain their youth while talking on the C.B. and boy, some of them must of been a handful as teens

    New Jersey - sucks

Shippers and Receivers - are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

Four wheelers - why do they swing extra wide when passing you then pull back in 8 feet in front of you?

    New Jersey - sucks

JB Hunt - gotta do something about that logo

Snowplow drivers - these guys should be paid by the mile! If you've ever been stuck behing them in northern Ontario at 25 mph you'll know what I mean.

    Did I mention NJ sucks?

those are all very good observations, 'specially about new jersey. i often wonder how many of the 10 or 12 students i got my cdl with are still driving. i think it's only me and 1 other. it's a tough way to make a living. don't jump from company to company, find one that you can stand then gut it out for a few years, then something good will come along.
    good luck man

I agree,n.j. sucks!!!!!!!!!! Wave at my truck and you will get waved back!!!!!!!!!! snow plow drivers should get paid in solid gold as far as I'm concerned. Try Donner Pass in december without them. As for everything else, keep a smile on your face, if for no other reason than it makes people wonder what you've been up to!!!

Yeah, the plow guys are invalueable. After spending over an hour behind them on the weekend I thought the mileage pay would be a #### good idea since they were going slower than usual.

As for the smile I'm loving this. Snow storms, delays due to shippers, broken landing gear on trailers and the usual rookie mistakes haven't phased me at all. This feels less like work than anything I've been paid to do before.

Well TT,sounds like you gat a start on it!!!! Welcome to truck driving!!! Keep your sense of humor when everyone else loses theirs. Somtimes you just have to belive that their is a sense of justice in the universe, and that four wheeler that just cut you off will get home and find out his water heater blew up!! Stay safe!:biggrin_25522:

Reminded me of the Mythbusters episode when they blew a water heater through the roof of a house!

My favorite thing I found as a new driver was all the crap you can buy at a truck stop parking lot. Anything from Chains to women; LMAO. A truck stop is like a swap meet.
