After looking at most of the companies, i have decided to go orange. Alot of bad press with most companies as well as schneider, but this seems like the best company in my opinion to start with. I start orientation on 4/3/12 in west memphis arkansas. i believe im prepared for it all but luck never hurts so wish me well.
now for my question, with me starting orientation, which with the little experience i have still am able to do the advanced orientation, but starting in april, will they be willing to try and get me home mid may for my daughters graduation. Im a a single father, raised her myself since she was 6 and really can not miss this. i dont necessarily need the whole day off, id be happy if they got me a load passing through so i could attend. I know im new and shouldnt probably be asking for much, but this is situation i would regret for the rest of my life if i could not be there for my daughter, not to mention the effect it will have on her and wonderful day.
any advice, comments or ideas would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance
Might be easier to advise if i let you know that ill be running regional in my area. thanx again

it really wont hurt to make the request. THAT is what happens, we put in a TAH request. They will , in turn, do what they can to make that happen. but there are no gaurantees. Just when you get with your DBL for the first time, pose that question.
I would further suggest , anytime you put in for it through the Qcomm, to ask for an acknowledgement that it was input in the system. That way you have a written record of it.
Welcome and good luck!!!! -
thanx mickeyrat68. Kinda what i figured and planned on doing. was just curious i guess if they really take situations like that to heart or just sweep the request under the rug. most of all ive read about schneider is that they actually do try to assist if something important or emergency. like i said , ill settle for a drive through, just really need to see her walk that aisle

they should work with you but you need to let them know when you get put in a truck. Just run when needed and try not to request to much time off until that date.
-
thanx ewill71 i will and have even contemplated telling my dbl that ill run xtras to help out if the request can be obtained. just gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Hopefully they will somewhat understand the importance and let me slide through there

No, they will not get you home when you want. They will get you home when they feel you have been out long enough and Workflow hasn't screwed you around.
-
I have been home on my scheduled time everytime except once. I have even been home a couple days early when I asked since I was already up in my area.
-
I picked it up in the morning then drove it to the OC and dropped it, then went home, and my DBL gave me an extra day off. -
Listen, I'm just a CDL student but if I were in company management (and I have been) and a newly hired employee came to me with that request I would make #### sure it could be granted. There is NO responsibility more sacred than that of a parent. I would see that as an employee who had his priorities and morals straight and that's someone I would want representing my company.
If a company (and I've worked for corporations bigger than Schneider) just sees you as someone who makes or delivers widgets then they have no hope of retaining good people. I'm hoping Schneider measures up for you.
