are you talking about getting your schooling at a trucking company verses a driving school?

you can apply to companies before you finish school. you may get a "prehire" offer based on your resume. when you obtain your CDL, let them know and proceed from there.

you can apply whenever you want. of course they won't hire you until you have the CDL. but go ahead and start researching companies. call and talk to their recruiters. you won't be able to get off the phone with most of them!

I believe with a pre hire it simply means the company will consider you AFTER you have completed school and you have passed your training course.

Then the company will start the verification process to see if you meet their hiring standards. Checking your employment history, your dac(USIS), your mvr, even your credit history in some cases.

If it were me I would not start applying until the final week or so of school. I know when I went through school in 1991 there were several recruiters that came to "pitch" my class. Burlington Motor Carriers, Werner, Schneider, JB Hunt, and a couple other smaller outfits, all extolling the virtues of their respective companies.

My suggestion? Take notes. The recruiters information may not necessarily be 100% accurate but you will not find that info out until you start researching that particular company. You do that by coming here or finding drivers working for that specific company at your local truckstop and asking questions.

Of course most drivers new to the industry do not even know what questions to ask a recruiter let alone know what is a good thing or a bad thing.
