In the mean time, I'll be over here doing my job (the same job as you)...and I've already succeeded at it. -
@White Dog
Does it really bother you that much, to the point of making snide remarks to new industry entrants?
Just because you chose to do one way, does it mean that we should all do so?
Or you blame the demise of the "good old days" to other bogeymen while not realizing the game is changing?
I have no desire to get into a pissing contest, but you sure seem to be pulling down your zipper way more than necessary....smdh -
AKA: The game of Life
Perfect non-trucking example:
I was hired at the same time as another employee. Literally two days apart.
We worked together in the same department. When we were hired there were two positions that paid $19k and one that paid $14k.
I got one of the $19k jobs. She got the $14k job because she said she really didn't know that much about computers... And they were going to give her a "chance" to prove herself.
I was started on the swing shift because that time worked with my class schedule and the babysitter was less at that time. Because of shift, BAM add $3k differential.
As new responsibilities came up for grabs, I learned more and more. Year one, 6% raise. Year two, 7% raise. And a bachelor's degree. Transferred to new position and bumped me up to $38k. In two years! Continued school, and by year three a Masters degree. Then I left to a teaching position at $45k, 180 day contract and free health insurance.
The other person, was still under $16k. In the same timeframe. Doing 100% of the job responsibilities of the start 19k job.... 3 years later still underpaid, learning the ropes, etc. And by the time the 2nd $19k position was filled... Did more than 50% of the new employee's training. And not quite done with an associate degree at the end of year three.
Who played the game better? -
I bet if I was to keep going, you'd keep pissing. Don't kid yourself.
Just follow through with your original plans...and when you disappear it will mean one of two things.
1). You have succeeded in what you consider a "game" and are too busy making the big bucks.
Or
2). You have failed miserably and are too ashamed and too broken up...losing "the game...you have taken your ball and gone home.
I got money on one of those scenario's...and I'm also betting you choose the opposite.
This is the last you'll hear from me on the subject---now go play ball, and good luck.Lonesome Thanks this. -
Packers also beat the Giants.TequilaSunrise Thanks this. -
Can you believe my husband wouldn't take time off to go to the next Packer game? Tear. -
You either wish me luck, or you dont....either way, you cant determine my fate.
I feel sorry for those that must look up to you to show them the way, for the snide remarks they may get, should they do it "their way" and not "your way"
I suspect you would rather I spend 2+ yrs at a MEGA while "earning my stripes". Not everyone has to do it that way. I have a 5+yr old business that I run (profitably) and wish to diversify now. I dont need MEGA's to teach me the business.
Ive been reading on TTR and I have to say, most drivers appear to be joining the industry while at their wits ends...thats not the case with me, therefore, why should I accept mediocre terms?
Do I have the "steering-holder" experience?...NO
Can I acquire it quickly...YES...
Do I have the acumen? Definitely....
So...I say this to anyone....
If you plan it, naysayers will question
If you execute, naysayers will redicule
If you succeed, naysayers will call it luck
Oh, ya, BTW, settling for 46cents/mile is not going to amuse me.
I've had incomes of $45K without a degree, which turned into 85K after degree, and 100K between 2008 & 2012...then I became an Enterpreneur....with a small business grossing $220K annually...I think I must be doing something right.... -
