HELP ME!!!! Going to get my CDL soon and leaving my boring factory job to become an OTR trucker. Looking for jobs on websites I'm confused: all the jobs are posted in every town around me and cities. Why companies do this? Where is the job? How do I get there if the job is actually in another state?

    Upinsmoke and Chinatown Thank this.

We'll show you the jobs, but you must let us know the state you live in and nearest city/town.
    Do you have endorsements?
How long is the cdl school or do you plan to use a trucking company school.
If the job is in another state, the trucking company will provide transportation.
Do you have a cdl school class start date yet?

Trucking companies hire from all over.

For example Dowdy in Batesville put me on a bus from Maryland to Arkansas and then into a Hotel during Orientation. Once successful I was on the road less than a week later with a particular truck.

Another company flew me from KBWI (Baltimore Friendship) to NC for orientation there.

When wife got her CDL, I wrote out a passenger waiver for her to take her from our home to Lancaster Texas in my Semi for her Orientation, only took about 8 hours total. By the time she arrived everything was in order and all I had to do was hang out and wait. It was fortunate because I got hospitalized overnight that week. She came out of orientation with a load going to California by way of Armarillo She got her first taste loaded inside the teeth of Dallas rush that afternoon and did well.

Greyhound is the main transport for orientation Nationwide, companies go to the bus station with a car or van and collect you. Usually. Richer outfits fly you, which is really nice. I have ridden my last Greyhound 20 years ago and would be happy never to do that again. 3 days with 50 close friends is quite enough. (That's night and day with the occasional hours wait inside station along way. IF you are fortunate to have a express bus you cut down on the local stopping at every tiny little town...)

Sometimes you choose your own way home. "I QUIT" and there you are. How you gonna get home? That's where savings come in. Either Fly, Amtrack train or some other way. We usually rented a vehicle and went home. Or hopped into our car that has been sitting two months and went home. Same thing if you were fired.

thanks man this is cool info! I feel dumb but I'm new to all of this . So every time you applied for jobs you weren't sure where they actually were? I'm looking at Ziprecruiter and jobs in Columbus area.. I don't see any terminal on company website around so the job isn't there probably.

    Google it by Company name.

For Example. Frozen Foods Express comes up

Then you look under "About us" and there be a locations listing somewhere in the drop down, it only takes a minute.

If anyone would know here on this site it's Chinatown. He is the Man on your question.

If you have a Ohio address, there's a couple dozen companies that will hire you right out of cdl school.
As soon as you get a class start date you can submit applications. You'll get job offers contingent on graduating from cdl school and having any required endorsements.
