I recently just finished Trucking School at Johnston County Community College in Smithfield NC. Im currently looking for work and im leaning towards flatbed becuase im a bigger guy who likes physical work and doesnt want to be cofined in a truck all day.
Ive looked at several options but im not sure about the companies. I would really like to work for TMC but since im not 23 yet I cant work there The recruiter told me I had to wait until I was 6 months within my 23rd birthday but im not waiting that long.
So currently ive filled out Apps for Howard Trans, Maverick Transportation, I filled out an App for Werner I looked into that Dollar General deal. Can anybody help me and give me some kind of direction as to the Pros and Cons about these compainies
such as miles/hometime/pay/training. Also does anybody have any advice that would be helpful as im transitioning from Trucking school to working.
I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. Peace and Blessings.

The best advice would be to pick out a flatbed company that will give you a shot then keep your record clean until the opportunity comes where you can go over to TMC. At least you ll have some flatbed experience under your belt by then.
-
Do you have any insight on Maverick are they a good Company. Ive heard TMC was the best Flatbed company but im not sure for certain. My records clean. Never been in trouble with the law or anything. If you do or know anybody who does I could use some good insight about Maverick.

I've talked with maverick drivers. They seems decent but he said you won't get home much. Check out builders transport. (Btc) they pay the best & living in nc. After training you should get home every weekend. Flatbed is the way to go. I enjoy it. I'd stay away from Werner.

I sent you a PM.

I understand Maverick semis have automatic transmissions. I'm only a CDL student myself, but for me I want my first job to be with a manual shift so I won't be limited in the future. Melton is a flatbed company that hires CDL school grads, but not sure about the age requirement. Roehl has a flatbed division.
G'luck -
Oh yeah, Melton,Boyd, maverick, ct transport many to choose from a lot of the big companies are going with automatics. 6 weeks of training is tough where ever you decide. Once u get some experience & keep yor mvr clean you can go anywhere.

I just Applied to Builders Transport, I also applied to Maverick and Howard. Hopefully I get some good feedback this week.

Good luck. Try asking in the flatbed forum for info on these companies. Maybe? I haven't driven for any of them. I drive for a smaller flatbed co. in NC . I've talked with a lot from different companies. Nobody ever has bad things to say. Flatbedders just must be a happier bunch? Lol

Is old man Nichols still running the show at NC Truck Driver Training School at Johnson Tech in Smithfield? When I went there the total charge was $78 for all 10 weeks as a NC resident ... times have certainly changed.
