    Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of getting into trucking because I was laid off my job and I used to drive in the 80's. I was accepted for orientation at a company but I left out some skeletons from way back in the mid-70's when I was a drunkin teenager. When you're accepted for orientation does it mean the background check is done already? When they say detailed check--do they do an FBI type thing? I have 3 dui's 2 drunk in public's 1 minor in possesion of alcohol, a misdemeaner theft, was charged once for Robbery but was aquitted by reason of temp insanity. I've been clean and sober for 33 years but will these backgorund checks find all that? Thanks for allowing me to discuss this here.
    Jeb

I just went through training and orientation with a company and going out with trainer this week. From everything I've seen since December when i started looking into this they are going to find out what you did in your past. The bad part about "forgetting" to put this on your app. is that it comes across as being "not quite honest" which isnt what an employer is looking for ESPECIALLY in this "employers" market.
There's also an awful lot of people out there looking for work that dont have the track record that you have.
If I was you id work on your math too...let me explain.....you say your 43 and been clean for 33 years. That would mean that by the age 10 you accumulated 3 dui's, 2 drunk in publics, a minor in possession, a mis.theft, and a robbery which you decided to go the route of insanity on.
You must have been that baby we use to see on Bugs Bunny in the carriage smoking cigars.
Hmmmm...33 years of sobriety and still havent learned to be HONEST....what did you learn? I'd say they gonna figure you out.

They don't need the FBI . All I need is your name and address and for $30 I can get your complete history including arrests on the internet . Save yourself a trip . No way will you get hired .
But don't give up . If you are up front about your past with a smaller company they might hire you .

I also have made some mistakes in my past, Jeb does have a few on me HaHa :). But seriously if it has been over ten years, you do not have to divulge it right? Dont most companies only go back Ten years?

As a retired federal DOT official I have seen more often than not, applications that ask: "Have you ever been convicted of a crime"?

It doesn't cost any more to go back 20 than 10 . If they go into Canada or run hazmat they get real particular .
