Newbies having difficulty getting started

    You have to look at it this way. The company's have a ton of applications in front of them and they scan through them looking for the best. Any mark on your record they will just move on to the next.

    If you can find a company willing to give you a shot then you might have a chance. But whatever you do do not put any faith into a pre-hire letter. They seem to be a standard form and do not hold much weight.

    Expediting may be the way to go and you at least get into the field. You can also try some smaller local work maybe class B until your record clears. The main point here is do not shell out a lot of money for school until you know for sure you're employable. Even some of the bottom feeders may pay for your school then not hire you and you're stuck with a large bill. That's based on a couple of posters here that have been screwed over due to their record. So you'll need to really do your checking and don't commit until you're absolutely sure.
