Frito Lay drivers can flirt with the 100k mark also, they are not union and have to do live unloads. There are jobs out there, but money is not everything.

I would rather make 50 and be happy than make 100 and be unhappy.

That's a good point but what about the high paying trucking jobs would be unsatifying?

groovemachine, well there you go, another great company paying great. If any newbies want to start driving making great money, Frito Lay would be another great choice. You have to go after these great paying jobs, When I started driving in `74, I wanted to make the most money I could possibly make. In 37 years driving I missed less than 7 days work, I mean not being physically able to go to work. Companies want you there, every scheduled day of work, be there and they`ll keep you there.

well, you don't HAVE to work your way up, my friend got extremely lucky, he just applied at the perfect time someone was retiring. before that he was just working for a company hauling steel. but yeah, UPS is definetly one of those jobs that would be worth it from the start.

i think a lot of people straight out of school psyche themselves out of going to a more demanding company, or hear terms like "slip-seating", and think its a big deal! like anyone cares about having the same truck every day if you are home daily!

i will tell you, these high paying jobs expect PERFORMANCE. my friend at UPS has 31 minutes to pre trip, hook his set of doubles, start his logbook, and GTF OTTA THERE! on the plus side, at UPS, you have times that have to be met. once you get used to the run, and start learning how to be efficient, you can show up before your times, and catch a nice nap a couple of times through the night. getting to sleep for an hour every couple of hours at night is priceless.

My lousy ltl company gives us an hour to hook our doubles and pre trip, but we don't get paid nearly as much as what he does.Still good money, but not UPS money. they also watch us like hawks on the gps, and only give us the breaks that we are supposed to have. so if i get to my meet and turn early, and the other driver is there too, i have basically just screwed myself out of pay because i'm paid by the hour. this can be VERY stressful, i don't care how good you can sleep during the day, it sucks having to be up all night just driving. it can be very unsatisfying. And, at my company, the linehaul pay isn't worth it, its the same as P&D, plus 20 bucks for every time you pull a set of doubles.

so yeah, making 50k and being happy is much better than making 70-100 and hating the world because your job is stressful.

already gone, your young, and you seem to have a good plan, If your friend got lucky finding a great paying job, YOU CAN DO IT ALSO. I like your attitude, you sound agressive at wanting to find a great paying job. My opinion, YOU can do it.

Well not so sure about UPS frieght making 100k but I do know when I was working out of a UPS center the Truckers that drove HUB to HUB was pulling 100k thats with over-time also its Monday-Saturday starting at nights. ALSO to get that position it has to go by seniority. So it can take 1 or even up to 8yrs before seeing that. This was to the very first question.
