hi im new to the hauling bussines but not new to the trucking one we have delivery trucks on florida and we been trying to enter the hauling world on the las couple of months. we already have the tractor which is a 2006 volvo 670 whit close to 500k miles it seems to be on good working order..... now last friday i saw a refeer trailer located on california its a 2006 utility 3000r or something like that it has a carrier unit whit 2900 hours its going for usd 22k so i got my flight ticket and got here to cal yesterday, when i was looking at the maintenance history they have a bill for a repair worth 24.000 dollars it seems that the trailer was involved on some kind of an accident on 2007 the repair bill its from utility so i guess they fix it properly, this unit needs the shoot which they tell me is the thing going on the roof so all the cold air gets evenly blown troughout the whole unit, it also have a small dent on the inside of one of the doors and when i got there today the unit was loaded working at 10 degrees. it would be our first trailer so i dont really know if i should get this one or maybe just take a rain check, i had a carrier technitian cheking the cooling unit today and they said the unit its working fine it just need a service, acording to the owner the unit is still under warranty until october (they got extended warranty). as far as i know the duct floor has to go all the way to the end of the trailer and this one has that diamond metal floor on the last 3 or 4 feet so i dont know if the accident was a rear end. my question is im i getting a good deal?? what should i really look for when gettin one of this units?? remember i still have to ship it to florida so any inputs on shipping?? also i wont be done whit my licenses until 2 or 3 weeks from now so thats why i cant pick it up myself.
im posting some pics so u guys can give me some imput on what to to. thanks everyone i really need some guidance on this
newby here!! PLEASE NEED SOME HELP ASAP!!!

I'm not sure about the going price of a particular year trailer.. I guess you could compare it to similar ones on truck paper & see if it's in the ball park? As for the diamond plate, it helps protect the tail from all those dock plates. Having it covering the last 3' won't hurt much if your hauling palletized freight.. but floor loads it could make circulation a little problem?
As for the accident.. is the frame straight, been replaced, or the bottom rail damaged or dented?? (It should be repaired if dented, bent, or gashed. It should also have all rivets & crossmembers attetched). Have you looked for floor damage under the rear tires (a blow out can put a hole in the floor, bend crossmembers..ect.) How are the tires / brakes/ ABS system / landing gear/ frame/ air lines & bags or springs/ check the sliding tandem..
The chute is cheap.. I would definately want to make sure the trailer was aligned properly after an accident..
Where was the accident?? Side, roof, floor? Are you sure all the repairs were done right? All insulation replaced properly?
Seems like a decent trailer if all these things are fine with the trailer and the unit was checked by a mechanic.. Just curious, why are you shipping it from CA.? Why not get it registered and load it & bring it home with a tractor yourself? Is it cheaper to hire someone else to do it? -
Seems a bit odd that you operate out of Fla and have to buy a trailer in Cali? I'd think that there'd be equipment alot closer to home that hadn't been wrecked.
jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
Is this trailer being sold from a dealer or Pvt Party? Isn't the repair bill itemized? Just what was repaired, for 24 grand? That's a lot of damage, my friend. Never seen a plate on a reefer floor before. Just be cautious and good luck.

well guys i closed the deal today, i had an utility tech inspecting the trailer and he said everything its ok, he checked brakes, lights, tires, underneath (all beams), landing gear, king pin, tandem, walls, roof, air lines, i asked him twice if the trailer looked straight he said it does (does to me too) he even gave me a new dot sticker for it, and also the carrier tech told me yesterday that the unit is working just fine, it seems they put that plate to protect the trailer from the forklifts comming in, he also said the flow of air shouldnt have to be afected by that plate, i came to cal because this trailers are running something in between 32 and 40k on miami (remember this one only has 2900 hours) so getting this one was a goos deal to me, i just couldnt find anything whit in my budget any closer, i been looking for a couple of weeks already. i think when it comes to shipping, if i cant get a good cuote im going to storage this trailer on this city and then when im finished whit my paperwork i will drive from florida pick it up and then hopefully start making some money.
i want to thank u guys for ur comments they were really helpfull
