Anyone happy that they stepped up to a newer truck? 2019-2024 model? With truck prices starting to come back to reality. Starting to look at new and used as

I have a 23 Vnl 860 and have been happy with it. I did have to replace the def pump but covered under warranty. Well worth it to me.

It is different when talking about a brand new and a used new. 2019-22 at 400- 600k miles which can be gotten for 55k - 65 are hardly new, despite still looking fresh - minimum 20k every year for maintenance and repairs guaranteed. That cost might as well be fixed...it may vary but it won't become lesser and won't disappear.

I have a very good shop I used for the stuff I cant do, when we were putting my w9 back together after the accident we talked about it for a little while, basically stay away from any “pre owned” emissions truck as the most profitable miles are already out of them, stick with what i have or go brand new.

I know what it takes to run an old equipment down the road, and I’m about to find out what it takes for new, my trailer was the first thing I had to take care of though as I knew I was going to open up a money pit if I didn’t

If you go new then you need to trade or sell at the 4-5 year mark and get another new one.

I had a 2020 Pete 579 w/ a Cummins that I ran to 450k that was decent. It had a few wiring problems and sensors, but otherwise not too bad.
    I now have a 24 Mack w/ 75k that’s done well so far.
I don’t want to deal with working on trucks constantly so new is my route. If I ever buy used again, it won’t have emissions.

  9. I've put 525,000 on my 2020 W900 with a X15 565 Performance and have had less than 10 days down time since new. I like it so well that I ordered a new one with same specs to take it's place.

I've got a theory that the first generation DEF trucks had such a bad breakdown record because nobody knew what the service intervals should have been. Seems to me like the newer ones just need new DEF quality sensors which is why they're sold out so often. I don't remember that being a big issue on the early ones.

That, but also some redesigns and much lower EGR levels.
