I used to struggle with night driving and the glare of lights. I went to an eye DR. and found out I have a stigmatism . I got some glasses and also got an anti glare lens. Been smooth sailing every since... Maybe an eye exam could help get you headed in the right direction...Good Luck

I wear glasses to and have anti glare coating. If you dont need eyeglasses you might want to try those yellow lensed sunglasses for night driving. Also make sure your windows are clean, inside and out as it will cause you problems with glare
Panhandle flash and Big Don Thank this. -
AMEN on those windows. When you smoke cigars like I do, it is practically an everyday chore to clean the inside of those windows and windshield! But even if you smoke cigarettes, you still need to clean the smoke off of them.

how about a driver who cant for medical reasons...but can still drive days.... would that make them unemployable....???
also because you are up high....does that keep some lights out of your eyes???
I cant drive a car at night.period. -
AMEN on those cigars!!! I like a good one while driving but the Mrs frowns heavily on it
On the medical reason issue that doesnt keep you from some local work but that might just cut you out of OTR stuff as sooner or later you will be doing some driving in the dark. Being up higher doesnt get you outta the lights, some guys like their driving lights on plus headlights and thats pretty bright in the cab. -
Issues such as Medical will most likely cause some issues, especially during winter months when it's dark most of the time. A local run during daytime seems to be your best option. Good Luck.....

I wear glasses all the time and drive at night sometimes. and yes the glare is the worst. sometimes even during the day its bad.

If you can't see at night, your trainer is supposed to report it to the company. Its a safety issue, and it is in the best interest of no one to keep you hired on in a position that would require you to operate a CMV in unsafe conditions.

One of the most important things about driving at night is to reduce in cab lighting. Turn the dash lights way down. I run mine just bright enough to read the gauges. Also if you have a CB with blue lights or extremely bright lights, turn it off or cover it up. If you have a cell phone on your dash, turn it off or set it so that the lights go out after a very short period of time.
If you wear glasses, clean them real good. It is no different then keeping the windshield cleaning.
Keep your headlights clean also, if you have plastic headlights then a can of pledge will do wonders in clearing them up.
But i used to have issues driving at night. It took me a while to figure out that the problem was the brightness of the dash lights alogn with the blue leds in the cb.
I can now go all night on even the darkest nights and not even think about flipping the brights on.
Also rainx helps with windshields at night, it fills in and seals alot of the fine scratches etc in the windshield that also cause glare.
Another thing is being well rested before you start driving at night.scottied67 and Ezrider_48501 Thank this.
