is it legal for a company to force you into a truck that has no APU and the truck has an automatic 5 min idle shut down which you can not prevent, and then send you to Louisianna in 90 degree weather. my wife and i are on the verge of heat stroke. this is a safety thing, we can't sleep, but we are expected to drive tomorrow. we ask the company to do something and they just ignore us.

Could you use the cruise control to eliminate the shut down?

thanks for the suggestion. we tried it. no it doesnt work. it's a 2012 prostar, it has a thing that allows us to idle if the temp is above a certain degree, but it doesnt work and our company is jerking us around about fixing it. i'm wondering if its legal to force us into this truck in this hot of environment with no means of keeping ourselves cool.

Read the book, "Sweatshops on Wheels"----legal? yes. Unethical? Who cares, not the government and certainly not the owner of the trucking company.

Well , this not gonna be the answer you like too read, but this happens all time, you can only get a motel and treat this truck like a day cab, i know that what i do, and keep all reciepts and write it off at the end year as a busness trip ,there more then way arouind the apple tree:biggrin_25524:

Think on this, if you left a dog in a vehicle when the temperatures were not even near that high you would be arrested for animal cruelty and more than likely the animal would die.
These anti-idle rules and regulations and company policies are nothing short of inhumane and sadly, legal.
If they don't want you to idle for comfort then they should be forced (by law) to pay for a clean, safe, temperature controlled room.
