Ok, so here is the deal.. I work for ummm the blue truck right now... But an OO has offered me a job.. 500 a wk april thru oct... 1000 week Nov thru may.. home 4 days a week.. dedicated run...
I would lose my bennies leaving big blue.. but I would make a lil more pay and be home alot more...
Should I even be thinking about it.. or should I jump on it??
I think I know the answer already.. just want some input from the outside looking in... :)

You can deal with the taxes and 1099 issue if you must. But how about health insurance? That may be your "deciding factor" here, particularly if you don't have it available through your spouse's employer. There is a lot to look at with something like this.

Make sure you think about ALL the ramifications before you make the change. Then if it still looks good, go for it.

But I am real curious as to why your salary is doubled for several months. That doesn't seem logical to me, even for winter driving conditions.

Exactly..the 1099 to deal with..no insurance .. and to address the more pay in winter..the run needs a double load in the winter.. "produce"
in the summer months they buy from local farmers..so it would cut it down to 2 days off in winter..
I really like having insurance..but I really like the idea of 4 days off at home..not setting in a truck stop lol..
See when you have been setting in motel for 5 days waiting on repairs..alot of offers may sound good.. because a person get freeking frustrated lol..

Hey man, I understand your frustration. Know that most of us have been there at least SEVERAL times. It's just the nature of the beast we call "trucking." Also know that trucks from ALL companies will occasionally get "broken," not just the company you are currently with.

Shoot, I spent 7 hours sitting in the driver's room of a repair shop right here in town, collecting my hourly salary, with a broken down day cab. It wasn't that we didn't have other tractors available. It wasn't that we didn't have freight that needed to be moved. In fact, I never really found out WHY they didn't have me just drop off that truck and grab one of the ones out of the yard. . .

Please, just don't allow your frustration to make you jump before knowing full well what all is involved.

You need to look at total compensation. Do you receive payed vacation now? Will you if you take new employment. Are you an employee or an I/C? Lots of rulings have just come down about this issue.

Need to figure tax rate of all tax. Right now your employer pays 1/2 of your FICA, you will be responsible for all of it. Without going political new laws coming soon may well force you to buy certain health insurance.

Sure sounds like a lot of headaches to me for $30,000 a year.
