    Flyer,
They could actually sell the rights to commercial service plazas much like the ones found on toll roads. The rights to such would be of huge value. Especially to the oil companies. Doing so, would give the Pilots, TA's, FJ's, and Loves of the industry incentive to bring drive down prices to get us off the big road.

I like the ma an pa truckstops too. They usually have some darn good food. I know their having a hard time, a good meal and good service get's a good tip. Most the times the waitresses are yapping on their cellphones instead of working. They get no tip.

Many are going the way of "travel plazas" instead of truck stops. I don't have any problem with them catering to all travelers, but I wish they would still keep things big, like the parking lot and the inside. At Pilot and Flying J it's hard to even walk around without stumbling over all the merchandise spilling out of the aisles and bumping into other people trying to navigate through all the stuff.

Also be careful about getting off the interstate for some of these so-called "travel plazas." I think it's in Arkansas, there's a couple of travel plazas along I-40 that don't have any truck parking and it's hard to turn around. So a "travel plaza" doesn't necessarily mean there's going to be truck parking, and you might end up wasting half an hour getting turned around.

Someone mentioned how a lot of rest areas are going to "no overnight parking" policies. I'm at a rest area in NC right now that has that sign up. All I can say is I'm parked here for the night. So it goes.

With the exception of Flying J, NONE of the other TRAVEL CENTERS owns their own oil refineries. I fail to see why "BIG OIL" should be required to subsidize Private Corporations.
"BIG OIL" only makes their profits thru VOLUME, their profits, percentage-wise (8.5%) are SMALLER than Walmart or KMart for example. Perhaps THEY should subsidize travel centers as well?

I'd believe that if they actually had enough cashiers in this places to get you in and out. Most of them don't and heaven forbid that your trying one of these places at 0200. Will only have 1 cashier and hope they don't have a phone stuck to their ear.

zero, it's not arkansas, it's Tenn. Here in Arkansas we only got 3 pilots,1 flying j, one petro, and one t/a. i know your going to say all those in west memphis, but we decided to give west mempis to tenn....to much trash and junk there we don't claim it

I thought there were a couple of those Horizon "travel plazas" in Arkansas where they have the Backyard Burgers restaurant but no truck parking. Maybe it was TN. It's a shame, though, those Backyard Burgers are really good and I'm sure they could make good business from truckers.

I always thot those travel plazas were overpriced too. I don't see how that is gonna get the truckumups to come down on theirs.
