Our system of justice says innocent until proven guilty and from what I can tell bail isn't unusual in cases like this. I'm dumbfounded at the idea that the judge has done something so horribly at odds with the system that he should be sued, makes no sense to me.
Don't mind me though, I often see things a little differently than most.
While we don't yet know what happened I have a strong suspicion that the driver was either so distracted that he missed the sign warning of a stop ahead as well as the stop sign with the flashing light or simply chose to ignore the stop. If that's the case I don't see what training has to do with it and I place the blame fully on the driver, not on the trucking industry like most want to.
Now if that's the case and he is found guilty I guarantee I won't think his punishment is harsh enough. For that I will blame the justice system though, not the judge who hands down the sentence based on the guidelines he has to follow. -

I am not against or for here, but just want to get a better understanding why people are so upset (let's take away the death of the people - of course that is upsetting), but let's just looking at the accident by itself. If we were driving a car or even a big truck that ran a stop sign and caused an accident, would we be criminally charged? And let's say no one died in this accident, would he be charged criminally? Let's face it, we all have ran our share of red lights and stop sign in our lives.........and i am sure some of us have caused accidents by these bad judgements, were any of you charged criminally?
Again, don't get mad at me, just want a better understanding of people's thought.uncleal13 Thanks this. -

If I ran over a bus load of kids, I'd sure as hell get busted for more than $1000.
Kinda reminds me of a time when I was driving home after a run. Watched a bus in the center lane clip a guys mini van that was in the curb lane. Wove right into his lane with no signal. The driver noticed cuz he quickly swerved back into his lane. Then he swings full into the lane because he was turning right, again no signal. I stopped and told the mini van guy I saw everything, and would be his witness. I had seen where the bus had gone, so me and the guy high tailed it to where he had stopped. Of course it was a herd of immigrants getting out to work on the fields. I pulled right in front of the bus so he couldn't drive away. Turned out the driver of the bus couldn't speak more than two words in English. Me and mini van guy proceeded to ask the driver to produce his licence and registration/insurance. driver refused. I phoned the local cops and a cruiser finally pulled up. Turned out the bus driver didn't even have his licence on him, and the bus registration was nowhere to be found. I blew a few gaskets at the cop when he just let the guy go. The cops reasoning was they have differnt rules where they come from, and we can't be too harsh on them. I told the cop I'd be screwed and hung out to dry if I hit another vehicle and couldn't even prove I had a Class 1, much less no paperwork the vehicle at all. He just told me to leave.
That's the state of the situation in Canada. Disgusting.Phantom Trucker and uncleal13 Thank this. -
