I'm new to being an O/O and want to make sure I haven't missed anything.
My plan is to a lease a truck.
I have put in an app. and been approved to sign on with a company in Chicago. I'm in Florida.

I have A quote for insurance @ $3535.00 for Non-Trucking Liability- Limit $1,000,000 Bodily Injury and Property Damage Combined, UM/UIM Limits:Minimum Statutory, $20,000 Personal Injury Protection- Limits: Minimum Statutory, Automobile Physical Damage (ACV) Subject to a $1000 Deductible Comprehensive & Collision.

    Anythig I've missed on insurance?

I will run under company authority and their plates.

What do I have to do for a plate to drive to Chicago?
Do I need to have DOT # displayed to drive there?

    What I'am I missing?

Any help or words of wisdom from you guys or girls would be greatly appreiciated.

    Best reguards
    John

Could you explain the lease of the truck? Is it just a finance deal, or is it trough the company you will be working for? The company you are going to lease onto authority with, are they charging you ANYTHING over 20% gross of your loads? If you are leased under there authority you dont need the liability, just bobtail insurance for when you drive your truck home when your off duty. Thats usually under $500 a year.

    JTabor Thanks this.

Hi J, absolutely no dumb questions. It's been 20 years since I've had my own truck, so I'm way out of the loop, but like Cetane sez, be careful with leases. I've heard lots of horror stories here, but it can work. It looks as if you've done some homework, but keep in mind, these companies are shysters, and I always thought, rather than buy their own trucks, they let some poor, unsuspecting person take all the BS. Best of luck. You are in the right place for advice.

The company that are leasing on to should provide you with a transit permit so you can deadhead to their terminal. Contact them and ask them about the permit

    JTabor Thanks this.

I'm doing a full maintenance lease from the truck dealer.
It's not really Chicago. The company is ATS Freeway outside Chicago in Elk Groove Village
I know of no cost after the 20%.

Does the transit permit exclude the need for a plate?

All great stuff keep it coming. Thank you all

The transit permits get you to their terminal where they will dress your truck and make it legal for hauling. Nothing else is needed.
