If you are leased to a CARRIER "CORRECTLY" everything is covered by the carrier / trucking company. The only thing you need is physical damage to cover your truck in case of crash or fire while you are working for them. You will need the bobtail for when you drop there trailer and head home for time off. The whole comp/ occupational insurance is a separate payroll scam problem.
ETA; If you are leased on and are losing 20% dont also give away extra money every week or month for insurance like cargo or liability that should be included under that 20%. I have seen many offers that scam like that advertized.Last edited: Sep 7, 2015

I live in Fla and am leased to a company based out of Chicago. 3 yrs now and have never been happier.
That fact that you felt compelled to post something like this sets off alarm bells with me.

They have a history of hiring drivers and allow them to run any way they want,.. outlaw etc. How ever,.. this is not the defacto representation of all eastern european outfits based out of the Chicagoland area. I am from Fla and I lease my truck to a Chicago based carrier,.. and the owner is indeed Lithuanian. In the 3 yrs I have been here,. I have never experienced what many claim are the notorious business practices of the eastern euro guys. Infact I have never been happier. Money is great and my carrier goes above an beyond to make sure I am successful. We look after each other as we have a vested interest to see each other succeed.
So personally when people here on TTR jump on the eastern euro bandwagon and immediately claim they are bad and going to screw you,.. I get offended. Yes there are small outfits who will run their drivers like that. It should be obvious when you meet these people exactly what kind of business model they operate. Ask the right questions and you will have all the answers you need.

There are many type of lease agreements. Make sure you read everything carefully and understand everything carefully.
The 20/80 split usually all you pay is base plate, bob tail insurance, fuel and repairs. Thats how mine is set up. Some places will want you to pay for IFTA on your truck. I recently started paying for IFTA. First year I did not.
As soon as you are connected to the carriers trailer and under dispatch for a load or in between loads,.. you are covered by the carriers cargo and liability insurance. This is why many owner operators lease on and run under the authority of other carriers. You usually NET the same or more this way than if you ran your own numbers. You get their dispatch and loads as well as their insurance and run under their DOT/MC #'s. Its less work for you.
Be careful of escrow accounts, hidden charges etc. Read the contract carefully!!

Glad you're with one that is legit. My city has a lot of shady companies. Just giving the OP a heads up to do his research. Four members from TTR that also live in my area Thanked me. -
Educate the OP on how to differentiate a good company from a bad. Then let him/her make their own decision based on what they want.

There's nothing racist about my comment. 90% of my friends are from Europe. Awesome people. I personally am from a minority ethnic group. I've seen comments about drivers from my ethnic group on here and don't take it personally.
Warning the OP cause the Chicagoland area has a lot of shady companies. Most of them are based in the Elk Grove area. I live one town over from Elk Grove. A Governor of Illinois went to prison a few years ago cause of the illegal stuff he was doing with trucking companies.
Sure it's my opinion but it's based on experience. Interviewed with many of them. Ask other members from the Chicagoland area. They'll tell you to do your research.truckon Thanks this. -
if you can't say most white volvo eastern european trucking companies are shady
pay on a 1099 no insurance
then you really can't say anything about anything
gee and as far as TruckDuo being a racist that is laughable -
