Thats very true. Most people will work until they die in America. Especially blue collar workers. We also have to remember that a lot of construction workers, real estate agents, mortgage writers, and government workers are trying to find work. Truck driving is a logical step for many of them.

On the subject of government workers, let me vent a long held pet peeve of mine. Why do I have to pay the pension of a guy who worked for government till he was 40 years old then gets into the trucking business and becomes my competition. I am paying to subsidize his income so that he can offer his services at a lower rate than I can...

I think they're hiring new grads because they've already ticked off all of the experienced drivers that they could get to work for them.

 

The ATA just puts this out so the gov. will feel sorry for the mega carriers then give them gov. grants to train these drivers.

Just speaking for myself, I spent 27 years in the military (USAF).

How many people would actually do that?

I feel I earned every bit of my small pension, which I still have to work to subsidize.

Now these Congressmen that have million dollar retirement packages, that needs to end!

 

not only that . if you havent been otr or about 6 months they make you surrender your license to get their school package. mega ripp off carriers are still doing this. i dont know something weird around , it looks like insurance co's and mega carriers are in complot .

 

The shortage will stem from the baby boomers retiring(they're in their 60's now), plus many drivers will cease to drive due to natural attrition, health(DOT physicals), etc.

 

Yes many military can retire at 38-40 years old & their pensions are paid with tax dollars. It's an all volunteer military & those people volunteered for a job that allows retirement as early as 38 years old. Smart planning on their part. I do have a problem with the politicians and their retirement packages; they get very lucrative retirement packages as rewards for destroying the country.

I am in the pool under discussion here - no va nor gov anything for record - I "interviewed" [ very briefly so to get to the no-exp issue done in under twenty seconds as that is the end of it ] at some twenty or so yards then had one yard at which I had a contact who made it totally 100-% fact that it is the insurance industry that is driving the stipulation ~ were it not for that I could have opened discussions on prev exp that just was not DOT documented, it is my opinion that where the insurance issue enters is DOT driving records would be stronger evidence at the bench of law thus in 1000 - 10000 cases the actuarial would favor DOT documentable .... as for the cahoot's tie-in I figure there is a $400 sack of Golf Clubs in it somewhere - I know as I bought them on one project ( another industry )

I was hired while in School to work for Halliburton as a Cement Hand! Came down and have been working ever since. Though we do more then drive; we also Rig up Iron and Hoses to the Pump Trucks ect. Its been good really; never thought I would get the satisfaction out of doing work like this.

 

What they need is someone with 0 CSA points
