And nowadays a lot of tractors have LED lighting, especially when it concerns headlights, not as simple as switching out a bulb.
Brakes, lights and tires are the most common violations the DOT man will look for. And usually on a Level I or II inspection they will check them.

    Yes, Western Express

Just a week ago replaced a headlight bulb. Was surprised being a 2023 model year it has bulbs.

Freightliner didn’t have much of a choice.
The same issue Ford is dealing with in have LED taillights swiped off of F Series pickup trucks, thieves have been targeting electronic modules in Freightliner trucks and selling them on the black market!
An article on the issue was posted a while back!

OK let's ask the right question - how much do you value your CDL?

I hope you PUT your CDL FIRST and not the company bottom line.

You get into an accident, even if it doesn't have anything to do with it, you are on the hook if you get an accident. They can inspect that truck and they will nail you just as much as the company, and they company/their insurance will not defend you.

SO stop making excuses for a company that can afford giving you another truck and shipping that to the dealer, who gives a crap what it costs, it isn't worth losing your CDL if you get into an accident and they inspect the truck AND document a defect.

    So what?

    You paying for it?

W.E. can afford the $3000 bill, they can give him another truck.

If the lights are not working. It is a violation and can place you OOS. You will get hit and so will the company. If I were you I would work with W.E. to get the equipment fixed or have them place you into another truck. They have plenty sitting around the yard. Dont risk your CDL over their BS. If they cant work with you, find another job.

As I was rolling into the Target warehouse in Madison AL at 6:00 AM this morning the headlights flickered then quit.

I would have to say I was lucky that didn't happen while on the back roads the company GPS told me to take. Or while a DOT officer was near by.

The luck continued when the company sent me to Southland Transportation, an International dealer 3/4 mile down the road. After a couple hours of old school diagnosis the mechanic said found the issue - a bad ground. Back on the road, waiting for next load. They even let me stay in the truck with my dogs.

So if life goes in threes I'm done with issues for a while.

Yesterday's trailer had the mudflap support bar rust off. Stopped at Lowe's Hardware for supplies and tools to fix.

Day before the weather seal on a different trailer failed inspection at a shipper due to daylight being visible from inside with door closed. The fix from Loves after a 6 hour wait... Tape. That is why I fixed the mudflaps myself in 15 minutes.

Trucking life can be a pain sometimes.

Ask your nice boss if he could repair the headlights and turn signals in text messy or something so you have his response in writing about him refusing to fix the truck or telling you to keep driving because he says it legally. I bet he won’t send that message back. If he does that great because you have proof he refused to fix truck that not legal plus him telling you to keep driving even after you said it needs to be fixed. What if it rains and you can’t turn on headlights most states have that law. Plus the other big thing it’s a DOT requirement. It’s part of your pre trip.

If you want keep driving then it was working this morning during pre trip if you got stopped.

Headlights still working. Seems the mysterious ground issues reference above fixed it.

Humor: on the way to the International dealer, Southland Transportation, saw an Averitt terminal. So I pulled in with my Western truck explained my issue and frustration. They were ready to hire me on the spot until I said I only have a couple months experience. Darn
