i'm looking at getting into trucking.... i have no desire to ever be home, have no family, have no bills, have no debt, i'm 24, and am very interested in making as much money as i can, as fast as i can.
i love eating at flying j's. i'm perfectly healthy, in good shape, have a 100% clean driving record with no tickets or accidents whatsoever, got my license when i was 16, and i've owned 5 cars, 2 trucks, 7 motorcycles in my life, all of which were manual. i live in jamestown, new york, but i don't much care where i end up. as many of you are probably aware, the cummins plant in jamestown makes the ISX and the ISM engines, where i worked for over a year. i'm certified to do anything i want to those engines: i worked in the test department. i have personally worked on, built, and tuned ISX's putting out over 2000hp. they were rare, but they did come through once in a while.
3 years ago, i moved to san diego, joined the electrical union and became an electrician (inside wireman). went through 3 years of my 5 year program for the apprenticeship, my grandfather fell ill 2 months ago, i raced back to new york to spend time with him, he died a month ago. i consider myself a smart individual, i'm one of those guys that always got straight a's on tests, and never did any homework though, so my averages in highschool were fairly bad. all i want to do is work and make great money, i don't much care where i am. i'm in my 20's, so i'm willing to act bulletproof for a while.
i have 3k in my pocket.
i'm an extremely careful driver, as my record shows. i'm certified on every type of man lift, boom lift, fork truck, boom fork (sometimes called a pettybone, skytrack or gradall), due to being in the construction industry. (i drove a 185-foot 3-person manbucket for 8 hours everyday for 6 months). i have better than 20/20 vision and my hand-eye coordination is ridiculously good. thought about being a crane operator, but the trucking industry is money now, and money now is what i need.
if anyone has any info they'd like to share with me, i'd GREATLY appreciate it!
PLEASE PM me, as i'm not really familiar with using forums and i might not be able to find my way back to this thread. i need to get working as quickly as possible!
no license yet, have cash to get one, who wants me?

The days of anyone training you are pretty much over....we can thank the insurance companies and a whole slew of people who thought training would be better if you had to pay for it. I'm still out on that...since I trained my ex-partner and she did fine for the whole 23 years we drove together.
So you're going to either need to get on with a company and become there slave to get you CDL or spend your money to come out and drive with us "professionals".
I don't think you quite understand the making the money part but what the heck you can learn with the rest of them. One more thing if you can't find your way back to your post I'm not really sure you belong on the road.....scares me a bit you'd get lost and not find your way back. -
well that's good that it gives you email notifications n stuff when some1 replies....and as to the replier...i guess it was a misconstrued, the point wasn't to be made that i was looking for a "ride". just looking for a direction....whether just looking up some random school and attending it is a good option, or signing on to be a slave with some random company i know nothing about.
thought i was gonna get a suggestion or two by posting my situation. like name-dropping would be nice, for instance. -

Trucking isnt really where the money is at especially for starting out. The only way your gonna make some real good money trucking is doing specialized, oversized, huge big oversized, tanker, flatbed stuff like that. With your experience why not stay a diesel mechanic you will probably make more money there and be home and have free time to do what you want and not live in a truck 24 hours a day... Think about it long an hard before you make any big decisions. Also your best bet for school if you do decide is to go to a community college for trucking stay away from the cdl mills and company training.

man your going so good in your young life, the money is a myth man.

don't go to a company paid school. go to ur local tech college.
that will cost u less in the long run.
spend ur money sparingly.
if u make it thru training give ur self 3 months after. before making a decision weather u like it or not. if ur still not sure wait a full year before jumping ship
