I am a recent grad of a truck driving school, and I am having a horrible time finding a company to work for. I have no accidents, no convictions of any type, I have my CDL and the biggest gap in employment I have is for attending college. I am 25 years old, I have a class A CDL. What is going on?
No luck with landing a job?

Did you put your time in school down as well?
-
Do you have any experience or just schooling? Also, did the school you went to offer job placement? I would call them and see what they can do about helping you.
-
Just schooling, the driving school does offer job placement, but I only got pre hires from Werner and Covenant and some other companies I read horrible stuff about.

you cant pay attention to everything you read on here
we all have our bias some people hate the companies for thier own failures
roll the dice pick a company get 6 months to a year experience and doors will open for you
you realize also there are people driving for all the companies that get bad mouthed
and they are happy
the only companies you can get in real trouble with are small carriers that dont abide by DOT regulations
putting you and your license in jeopardy
the big boys have plenty of faults but they are almost all on elog's and wont make you run 2 paper books run bad equipment and overweightTRKRSHONEY, T...Street, j3411 and 1 other person Thank this. -
and go get one of those jobs before the time between getting your license and applying gets so large you need to do a refresher before you even start
another red flag to the companies hiringairforcetoo and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
From what I have heard, most of the time starting out, you have to put in time at the big companies that you are probably referring to. If you really want to drive, I would research the companies that are willing to hire you and pick which one has the least negatives. You're probably going to have to stick it out for a year or two and keep a clean record in able to pick from a better list of companies.
TRKRSHONEY and SpiritCDL Thank this. -
If you have pre-hires from those carriers, you need to contact them and get your career rolling down the road.
It's not as if they're that much worse than any other starter company. The longer you wait, the worse it'll get.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -

Like the others said, if you really want a truck driving job, suck it up and go to one of the companies that gave you a pre-hire. Put in a couple of years to get your experience, then move on.
TnVols Trucking Thanks this.
