Just got off the phone with Jay, aka Jason, at ALK Technologies, Princeton, NJ. His number is 609-252-9219. He informed me that they are no longer supporting the gps with map updates. Without current maps this unit becomes a paper weight so if you're considering getting a gps please think very hard before you buy a PC*Miler.

Gonna be awhile before it becomes a paperwieght....as I remember it, I-95 still goes north and south and has for quite a few years. The maps don't actually change every year, so buying every year updates is a waste of good money.

But what do I know, I've been using the same ancient gps made from trees since 2008, a whole four years! And amazingly enough, the states didn't move and all the cities are right where I left them!

Yes, the cities haven't moved, and I-95 still goes from Miami to Canada, and Pedro is still hawking fireworks just south of the NC-SC line.

However, old roads close, new roads open, bridges disappear, and that 14'4 underpass is now 13'6 due to the road being repaved last summer.

The states and cities don't move, but the roads do. There are many times my Tomtom thinks I'm driving off road. There are other times when it tries to take me through a town, because it doesn't know about the new bypass.

The old Tomtom is more accurate when it comes to finding an address, compared to my new Dezl.

Anyone going up or down 95 that can't locate Pedro is in trouble. :)

Updated Maps are important for sure though.

Then your TomTom is crap. My amazing Commercial Motor Carriers Road Atlas has never led my through town unless I chose to go through town. But that's what happens when you learn to read a map from an early age, and don't depend on idiot devices to replace brainpower...

I can read a map as well as anyone, but were not discussing maps. Stay focused.

I tried focusing once. Didn't like what I saw. I now prefer to exist in a reality of my own making, where I am a petty tyrant and the rest of the world exists for my amusement alone...heh heh heh...
