TMC was my first OTR job, that's never been a secret and I wouldn't count my time in a straight truck as OTR. No doubt I've seen a decades worth of crappy drivers on the road and some really bizarre situations but it's definitely not OTR. It's still reasonable to compare your employment from place ot place, some things are important no matter where you go. The way the company treats you, having I/EZ-Pass, load claims, overweights, low clearances are universal in trucking whether your OTR or local. I would say those experiences are fair to compare.

UNLESS you break company policy, then they fight it. RIght? Cuz there is an aweful lot of guys I know that weren't able to get it.. and ironically i was. They did it to save money regardless of how you want to look at it. There was a guy on that account that has wrecked his truck 5-6 times, he hit a pole in the parking lot, has been late 10-15 times, has taken down fences/poles in the customers parking lot.. and they diddn't fire him.. They put him back over the road.. I diddn't screw up anywhere near that bad and i was fired, the only conclusion i can honestly draw is the fact that they owed me alot of money that they wanted to save. Oh well, their loss, i'm going back to my old job like CPL, and in the mean time i'm going to return to school it couldn't have worked out better.
In being honest with you though, I do miss driving for them. They weren't that bad of a company, and i loved the comradarie between the drivers. My fleet manager took great care of me, I honestly believe that if i would've stayed OTR i wouldn't have been fired, as soon as i jumped on home depot, though, that made me the low man on the totem pole and they still haven't filled that truck yet.. Doesn't really matter, though.. Life goes on.
I know you'd love to think about what a bad employee i was, and how TMC would never let their greed get in the way, but keep in mind that they fired ~300 other drivers that same week, for things as silly as "slow trippaks" etc. When my buddy got rehired he got rehired with about 5 other guys that got fired that week and then came back, one of them said his FM told him "Wait a month and try again, they are trying to save money on insurance" (IE not have to pay some insurance bills for that month and get ahead a little bit) and sure enough 30 days later he was rehired. I had my chance to go back, but in remembering the way things used to be and have changed i think i'd rather not. That's my choice, it doesn't mean i think they are a bad company i've said exactly the opposite numerous times, I just don't like the way things have changed. It's a personal issue, and if you don't like it then i'm not sure what to tell you.

I thought that I read something in here about not getting the full refund for the tolls you paid with cash because they tax it. If TMC does this it is illegal. You are being double taxed: once when you get your paycheck, and then again when you spend money from this weeks check on tolls next weeks, and then get reimbursed.
When I first started driving 5 years ago I thought Schneider was doing this because of the way that they were putting the data on my settlement sheet. I went to a CPA who does trucker taxes and paid her $15 to look at my settlements. She informed me that they were not doubled taxing it, it just seemed that way because of the way they put the info on there.
She then informed me that it would be illegal to tax the reimbursements because its double taxation. This is because it is assumed by the IRS that the money you are being reimbursed is from the income that you have already earned and have been taxed on. Also if you are being taxed on it, its being reported as income.
This means that if they say that you are making $52K a year and taxing weekly reimbursements (because they are counting it as income) of say $100, you are really only making $46800. (52,000-5,200=46,800)
I'm no CPA by no means just thought I'd relay what I was told by one incase someone is only staying there because you think you are actually making $5,000 ish more than a better job.
