    great amenities there

warm food, wash facilities, lavatory, walk around and mingle with other drivers' all because you are "out of hours" and you cant make it to a truckstop

i wonder what other hoops they are going to throw at us

    every day you find parking
    every day
    every day
if you hope to find parking you don't
sometimes you have to stop before the whistle blows
you drive into the cities with limited parking with an hour to go on your clock
    who is the fool

not knowing when to stop and where to park
brings on this company is bad thread
personal responsibility makes all things possible

    who is the fool?

saying "elogs" and "personal responsibility" in the same breath is quite the dichotomy

anyone who uses elogs has given up any claims to "personal responsibility" and now is dependent on the computer to log their time, tells them when to work, nap time, and when to go to bed

and you want to call other people, fools

Anytime my bf isn't going to be able to stop where he planned, he calls and asks me to find him a truck stop somewhere along his route. Luckily I found a pretty decent website that let's me search by distance from cities, along major highways, or along a certain route. I have saved his bacon several times by doing that.

I start looking for parking when I'm down to an hour. Some might call this foolish but it has yet to bite me in the ###!

So what? Sometimes you have to pull off and there isn't always going to be an Iowa 80 with 30 acres of parking available. I'd rather pull into an empty strip mall and shut down than make myself a giant target by sitting on a ramp or shoulder of a highway.

We see ELOGs "benefits" during the winter...Especially when Vail to the Divide is strewn with 4-Wheelers....Some drivers just shut it down right on the ribbon...because they have no choice after having to wait several hours on the ribbon waiting for the mess to clear....

What you are figuring wrongly in my opinion is the number of hours you drive. 11 hours of driving and 14 hours of on duty is the maximum allowed by law. Yes you can be on duty but not driving more then 14 hours. My personal limit is much lower then that. I look for a place to park after 8 hours of driving or 11 hours of on duty time. That gives me 3 hours of looking around time. My Garmin takes me to rest areas, Walmart, truck stops, and the like. You can even park at Weight Stations. In most states now there are Porn Shops with welcome trucker places (if the Swifties haven't taken up all those).

The Hours of Service rules are for the purpose of protecting us from having to work our (in PattyJ case cute) little butts off. Do not work right up until you drop. Plan (also a Garmin function) and pull in early. Waiting until you are tired to find a spot for the night can be dangerous.

i keep telling folks on elogs that they can only plan an 8hr day, for these very same rasons

and of course, they clamor, NOT TRUE

but the truth is, you cant help but to plan an 8hr day, in case of stuff happening

now, this translates into a substantial loss of work time, in other words elogs cost you revenue
