I was raised in Ohio and have driven in snow and on ice for many years, I have the utmost respect for the skill you truckers have handling those weight loads in such conditions. I am not fooling anyone, I could never do it. Cars and small trucks yeah, no problem usually fun in fact, but not in a big truck no way.

I want a company that would route me along in the South (will move if needed). Do any companies send people from Georgia/Florida to California? Something along the I-10 maybe? Do any of these companies work with student drivers? I figure by the time I get done with training if I were to stay in Ohio it would put me right on the doorsteps of the ice starting. I really don't think I could learn to handle that much weight on ice.

I assume by the humor I will be forced to learn how to drive in the same road conditions I drive on now? Is it really hard? Like I said I understand the physics and am really worried about that much weight. WTH do you guys do going down Jellico on I-75 in January??? Cars slide down the mountains on ice and they don't weigh 80k pounds. So you just ride out a controlled slide and pray?

When you consider that it snowed in Georgia, and Texas this last winter, good luck with driving in no snow....LOL!

It's not the snow that I have a problem with, it's the ice. Just 6 months ago all roads in my county had 3" layer of ice that nobody could clear, not the dozers in town, not the plows, not the salt trucks and not even that spray. 3 inches of ice was on the roads for about 17 days. Could barely move a Nissan at 20mph. THIS they did not get in Texas. How can you be from Michigan and call the dustings in TX & GA snow? I thought you wolverines knew better lol.

When I was in college in SC right after hurricane Andrew I was warned about the snow and how Charleston was not free from it. Sure enough around February they got their 1/4" and I kid you not the entire city was 100% shut off for 2 days. My family back home was laughing pretty good on that one when they asked why I wasn't in class and had time for a phone call that afternoon.

Perhaps my question should have been: Are there East to West routes available only within the Southern states or do all companies transport North as well?

Everyone always says how can that small amount of snow down south be a big deal? The difference is they have absolutely no equipment for snow or ice. The worst driving experience I ever had was an ice storm in Arkansas. It is not good when they get winter weather down there.

It's no good when we get snow in east TN! Everything here shuts down because no one can drive on a dusting on the road.
