No to Speed Limiters!

That speed limiter rule never made any sense… The speed of any truck should be left up to the owner of the truck what they want the speed set at

My problem with this stupid statement is simply that the four wheelers were never the problem, it is the truck drivers who are underskilled or just crap drivers who are.

I applaud the FMCSA and the Administration for this, but at the same time, it only solves such a small problem with an easy fix while distracting all of us from the bigger problems with drivers in this industry who can't drive safely.

Let's see the FMCSA/US DoT address the real problems with safety, not just something that triggers a problem.

 

4 wheelers ARE the problem. I am out there, in my 4 wheels, and I cannot take a drive anywhere without seeing a four wheeler do something dangerous to a professional. I think half are idiots that don't know how to drive , and the other half are evil, messing with Truck Drivers.
In fact when I see another 4 wheeler driving properly around a big rig, I think to myself, he must be a Truck Driver, driving his 4 wheels. that is how RARE it is to see.
From this site and reading you all , I believe if you say some other big rigs are also a problem., Not being a Professional Driver myself , It has not been my experience. If you Drivers here say it, I know it is true, well not just anyone here....but a lot here.
I am the only 4 wheeler I know that even TRIES to drive right around you. You are worth it , you are pros and you are the best....much love health and happiness to you all.

 

Silly president, back in my day, we had speed limiters, they were called Detroit motors,,bring back the 238 fuel converter( converts diesel into noise) You think there's a driver shortage now, here you go, fresh graduate, a rattly door, GMC Crackerbox, 238, 10 speed, our best truck,,,

 

If anyone wants some real statistics on the safety numbers on this idea, they don't have to go far to get them.
Ontario and Quebec have had this regulation for at least 15 years.
Just compare their accident stats first with other provinces, and then various US states.

They will find, just like ELD's and other technology options, automatic braking systems, lane guidance etc. none of it works better than having experienced well paid and trained drivers. And management held responsible to operate safely.
But that is too simple.

 

You assume we have professionals in this industry, we don’t. Some of the worst behavior is by truck drivers, and if one wants to be a professional driver, they can’t assume the other drivers are going to be safe around you or on road.

as a professional, you have to assume that everyone around you is a danger.

 

I do not assume anything. I know everyone around me is a danger, I speak from my experience. That is all I can do. I can't say what anyone else may think , feel , etc. because everyone has their own experience. My definition of "professional" is when a person is paid to do what they are doing for a living. So that makes Drivers who get paid to drive a professional. I don't get paid to drive. Pilots who get paid to fly are professionals, a carpenter who gets paid to build with wood is a professional. There are plenty people driving, flying , lots of carpenters.........that do not get paid , they are not professional'.

I didn't look anything up in Webster's or any other dictionary, that is my definition.
I was taught to drive defensively, and I do. I assume nothing , not just others driving .......it isn't smart to assume.
There is not one single Driver I know that assumes others will be safe around them, in fact they like me are out there dealing with it all and they know it is not safe.
I am pro Drivers, they have proved to me to be safer on the road, than 4 wheelers. Not every Driver....there will always be exceptions. Nobody is perfect.
Mistakes are made by the best of people......so anyway.....I could have said this in a couple sentences, but I just don't like to be misunderstood, thats a natural human thing.

Don't forget "assume" makes an aXX of u and me.I don't like to disagree with Ridgeline, an open invitation to fuss, but I think they are selling the industry short, we do indeed have professional drivers, some of the best in the world. This handy device just brings every glitch to our kitchen tables, it's not near as grim as it's made out to be. We simply can't have zero risk as long as humans are in control. Truck drivers don't come to work thinking I'm going to kill every 4 wheeler, they are merely involved with drivers that aren't near as concerned, and as long as we are, $#!+ is going to happen. Unless trucks have their own roads, we have to all get along. That's what professional is.

 

It's not your experience because you literally don't have the same experience as a professional driver does. I'm curious; if you're not a professional driver why are you here?
