Ok guys right now I'm working full time local gig day cab tractor no touch freight ,making $13.00 hr,the job is ok but does not offer benefits at all,no health insurance or dental, I recently got I offered an opportunity with a local food service distributor day cab tractor, unload product coming down ramps with hand trucks, this opportunity offers full benefits and a lot more money, sometimes I might have to do an overnight stay,my question is should I stay with the local no touch job or should go with the new food service opportunity,,I need opinions ASAP I have to make a decision soon

Are you serious? You are asking for an opinion about whether you should WORK for more wages and benefits or just loaf along for wage only? Unless you are physically handicapped go for the benes. And it WILL be work. But hard work never hurt anybody.

if you are a young guy and don't mind hard work, then go for it.

but us old timers prefer to hardly work.

I would not drive a friggin one ton pick up for $13 an hour, yea its hard work, but if you want to make money in trucking 90% of the time its not going to be sitting on your ### holding a steering wheel

They still have "no touch" trucking jobs? Ive been hearing they were a thing in the past. I would GO FOR the food delivery job. More money and benefits that should tell you there. I work for LTL where we do touch a lot of freight with a pallet jack which doesnt bother me. Although in the food service you WILL touch everything on that truck, but you will benefit gettin a decent workout and able to stay in shape. I lost some weight just doing LTL work.

But beware of the big food warehouses, I do not know if they will pay for lumper or make you throw and sort the load. I know some LTLs who throw the load, we dont do it because its not in our contract. We dont pay the lumper service either since its really not our freight(most companies do)

13.00 a hour? I would NEVER work for that lol. I was offered a job a few months ago and they told me straight truck was 11 a hour and TT was 12 a hour and NO benefits... I laughed at the recruiters face and said ##### off what kind of company is this. Cant live off this in NY.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do

    Ga400 Thanks this.

I've touched 5 cases total since I started driving and 2 of those were me touching them to take them home since they were damaged and the company didn't care. That includes the 3 or 4 months I was doing local work.

I peddled when I started driving, then I went to sitting in the truck. debating about going back to peddleing to loose some weight, but it wasnt a pallet jack, two wheeler, 400+ plastic totes and boxes....and it was probably over 200% touch by the time you got everything unloaded and organised the trailer to secure the load to go to your next stop.

Next time you see a delivery truck at a restaurant, look in the trailer while he's unloading and then decide if food service is for you, You may change your mind.

I would do food service if I were younger....lighter....more in shape....had better stamina...you get the idea.

You can make good bucks, but you will work.
