Is the Stryker 497 really noisy on the receive, or did my setup tech just not know what he was doing. Like the output and function of the radio, but receive just too noisy in a semi.

Might be electrical noise in the truck. Turn off inverter if it's on. Unplug any chargers or USB power adapters you may have plugged in. Turn off any other extraneous add-on stuff you may have running and see if any of these are the source of your "noise"

Ya i have done most of that, it is more when you go under power lines on the highway, and stuff like that. Seems to be way to sensitive, or needed another filter installed at the factory. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this with this model radio, I couldnt decide if i should get rid of the radio and go back to my old Mirage 9900 or find a new tech to work on the stryker 497

If it's picking up noise from power lines and other electrical noises through the antenna (which is what that sounds like) I doubt there's anything your going to be able to do, other than turn down the RF Gain...If it's picking up electrical noise from the truck, then you just need to trace down whats causing it, like fuel pump, or something running like inverters or phone chargers, or whatever and try to ground out the noise bonding parts of the truck or turning off stuff.

There's some intersections here that totally kill my receive when I pull up to the Stop Light, but once I get passed the lights, noise level drops...and it don't mater what radio I have in the truck, they all do the something at that particular intersection.

Some radios don't have as much filtering as others, but usually that's the smaller "budget" type radios like the Cobra 18's,19's, and Uniden 680's, 510's and other radios under $100...I would think the Stryker 497 should have sufficient filtering.

Some area's have more RFI than others. I drive through a bunch of area's that wipe my receive out for a few minutes until I get through the area. And same as Jesse, doesn't matter what radio I'm using.

That’s just normal with any radio. When it’s hot and dry out it seems like the antenna picks up a lot more noise from the air, compared to when it’s wet outside.

What about a common mode coil choke in the coax?

Actually putting dry fine-powdered graphite in the steer hubs will kill that.
